Event Announcement : "LUGManipal Open Week"
by Ankur Sinha
hi,
Apart from the fedora community, Im also a part of LUGManipal (
www.lugmanipal.org ). We met a few days back and my proposal for an "Open
Week" was accepted.. Here is the wiki page that Ive put up for a start.
http://wiki.lugmanipal.org/LUGM_open_week
Fedora 10 Cambridge has been selected as the distro to be installed at the
install fest. :) :) :)
Ill be putting the event on the " Events page " shortly..
We are a pretty young body and this is our first "major" event. Please have
a look at the wiki page and leave your comments.. Even criticism is
welcome..
You can also comment on our forum or just reply here and i could convey your
views to the others.. ( http://forums.lugmanipal.org )
Its a long way off right now but we are going to begin preparations so that
it goes smooth and glitch free.. We are also looking for someone to kick it
off for us (someone other than us students to talk on the Intro day). If
anyone has the time please let us know..
Please feel free to direct any queries..
regards,
Ankur

FUDCon/FOSS.IN
by Ankur Sinha
hi,
Unfortunately, I happen to have endsems at the end of November. FUDCon's
been declared on the 28th and there's no way i can make it since i have to
take an exam that very day.
:( :( :(
Is anyone aware of anything Fedora related to be held on the 29th? (My next
exam happens to be on the 1st of Dec so I could squeeze 29th out).
Also, will the happenings of FUDCon be put up on the internet somewhere so
people who couldnt make it can atleast have a look at what we missed?
regards,
Ankur

Playing with The Potato Guy! (aka KTuberling)

"Playing with The Potato Guy! (aka KTuberling)" -
http://in.youtube.com/watch?v=1-eRkwIOB2w
A group of semi-literate (and *totally* computer illiterate) Group D
(or Class IV i.e. the lowest grade of employees in governmental
employment) staff at an University near Kolkata amusing themselves
playing "The Potato Guy". The pertinent fact is that they have never
used Linux on the Desktop and here they are completely at ease with
it!
Linux is supposed to be tough! Linux on the Desktop is "Orrey baba!"
(a Bengali expression that basically says "Wow! that's not my cup of
tea!")… yet all of my experiences from the last 6 years of working
with people on the ground has been otherwise, this is the latest case
in point. Almost all first-time users adapt to Linux pretty fast. It's
the so called "computer literate" that have problems galore.
For what it's worth, it was their fifth day on a computer.
cheers,
-indra

[Fwd: The desktop beyond F10]

Hey all,
with F10 closing in on the finish line, it is time to start thinking
about how we envision the Fedora Desktop to look beyond F10. To that
end, we (mostly Jon and me, with some help from other desktop team
members) have started to put some of our ideas for how to improve the
desktop experience into written form.
You can find this material here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Desktop/Whiteboards
Currently this is just a pretty unsorted mixture of wild ideas,
implementation details and concrete plans, and a lot of them are missing
details, user stories and use cases. Don't misunderstand it as 'the plan
for the F11 desktop'.
But I hope that it is filled out enough to provide some idea in what
direction we would like to move the desktop. Over the next weeks, we'll
turn the things that we are going to tackle for F11 into regular feature
pages.
Comments and feedback welcome, either on this list or in the discussion
tabs.

Hi,
We are organizing a FUDCon this year as part of the FOSS.in conference
in Bangalore, India.

"FOSS.IN/2008 is host to FUDCon. With a large number of Fedora
developers in the country a lot of whom will be at FOSS.IN/2008 we
though it would be a great idea to host the FUDCon. In the words of one
of the key organisers of the FUDCon
FUDCon at FOSS.IN provides a place for developers to come, code and
contribute to the Fedora Project — Sankarshan Mukhopadhyay

[URGENT] India Ambassadors meeting. 15th Nov, Sunday, 4PM IST. Attendance requested.
by susmit shannigrahi
Hi All,
Sorry for this one time spam.
I have two things to say.
1. Are you a member the mailing list for Indian contributors and users
of Fedora Project ? Please become a member if you are not. This is
where we discuss most of our activities.
Your ideas will help us. The URL is here.[1]
2. We are going to have a urgent meeting of Indian Ambassadors. We are
very less communicating among ourselves (mea culpa too). This meeting
to update among ourselves about
- what activities we were up to for past 6 months.
- what are our plans are for upcoming 6 months.
- what are the events in our region we are participating in.
Please make sure you are present in the meeting. This is *important*
and *essential*.
If you don't have extreme reasons, don't miss it.
3. The date of the meeting is 15th Nov, 2008, Sunday, 4PM IST.
We will meet at #fedora-india at IRC Freenode.
4. If you have problem with IRC please refer here[2]
5. If you reply to this mail, do it on fedora-india mailing list[1].
Thanks and looking forward to see you all there.
