Any news of the two packages, Wordnet and Xpaint? I am sorry to disturb you like this, but it would be really helpful for me in my works.
You could try and pick up the WordNet package from the review request and do a rpmbuild of the SRPM locally. The submitter did update his submission few days back.
As for Xpaint, I will try and prepare an interim package for you by tonight or tomorrow morning.
Rakesh pointed out that XPaint is available in ATRPMs [1]. Is it an option for you to enable ATRPMs till we get it into Fedora proper, assuming that there are no hitherto unseen hurdles?
Cheers, Debarshi

Well WordNet package(as of now) is broken a bit(at BZ) and reporter needs a sponsor, though he seems to be active.

Yes, the reporter needs a sponsor and yes he also tries to be active (tho' he just saw this thread ...he has not been reading posts to this list as frequently as he should have been -- ah well :) !)
Anyways, yes ! I do need a sponsor, so it'd be great if someone could please help me with that.
Here's the bz for quick clicky : https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=473583

I am using FC 8. I will be so grateful to you if you can make Wordnet work for me.

Sadly it is EOL (End of Life i.e no support), it would better if you can move to F-10.

That's correct. Also, i do not have access to a fedora 8 box, so I'm sorry I can't build the rpm for you. If upgrading to F10 is not an option for you right now, i think you can just take the source rpm from the bugzilla request and rebuild it on your system:
$ rpmbuild --rebuild <source rpm>
...or just get the source package from wordnet.princeton.edu itself. The build is not complicated, the dependencies are tcl, tcl-devel, tk, tk-devel, automake and libX11-devel

Thank you Steve, I think I would go the tarball way, have never tried the RPM thing. But compiled the Wordnet binaries once or twice before.
If I am remembering correctly till F7 everything would run just fine, but then in F8 something in tcl/tk showed error during make, something about the path where make expected to get tclconfig script or tkconfig script was different in Fedora, or something like that. Maybe the clue is tcl-devel and tk-devel that you suggested.
Thank you once again, but, please bear with me if I report some error, I really need this thing. And obviously for the time being, at least for three or four more months I don't have any plan to change OS. -- das ddts.randomink.org
Thank you Steve, Rakesh, Debarshi
My laptop is now a proud owner of the excellent WordNet binaries, and no more it will suffer from lack of words, I presume.

Due to some other problems, I finally changed my system from F8 to F10.
Now, is there some kind soul who can create the RPM-s for 'xpaint' and 'wordnet'?
Thanking you in advance

The original wordnet BZ pointed out in this thread was for F10
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=473583
which, unfortunately, is /still/ pending a review (and sponsorship)[1]. However, you may use the source rpm in the BZ[2] and rebuild it.
As for xpaint, seems like the package on sourceforge isn't been maintained actively (last update Aug 2005). Is there a reason why you do not want to use any of the many alternative paint packages ?
I could try and package it for you, but in case you are really interested in getting that package and you are inclined, I'd recommend having a go at creating and submitting the rpm yourself ! After all FOSS is all about scratching your own itch.

[1] Could someone /please/ review this and sponsor me ? I'd be more motivated to package some of the other small apps i use which aren't in fedora if i have access to the build and hosting system. [2] http://lonetwin.net/wordnet-3.0-3.fc10.src.rpm
As for xpaint, ...
As I mentioned earlier in this thread, it is already there in ATRPMs [1]. Some souls in #fedora-devel had expressed some doubts over bringing it into Fedora due to its seemingly unmaintained status, but if it is really _that_ useful we can always do it.
Cheers, Debarshi

Thanks I will install 'xpaint' from there.

Dear Steve
Sorry that I sent the earlier reply to your personal id. Usually I use 'claws-mail' and so get a bit confused with this google-interface.
Anyway, the stress on 'xpaint' is that I once did quite a few jobs with it. And it was quite good for my humble needs. I know there are a lot of new and modern things there, but, ahem, it takes some labor to learn a new thing, doesn't it?
