FOSS.IN 2010 Retrospective

Hi

We have a tradional post even period for suggestions/feedback on what we
did right and what we could improve upon either individually or as a
team.  Although FOSS.IN team has announced that they aren't continuing
the event, the feedback is important for us to organize ourselves better
for other events as well.   So I am looking forward to any feedback from
participants.   The one thing that immediately comes to mind is that, we
were asked for x86_64 media for a number of users, much more than any
other event that I have seen.  So it does appear x86_64 has gone
mainstream now and we need to do media for both architectures going
forward with more x86 media still.    We probably could have used more
keychains and buttons as they were way too popular as usual.

Let me know your thoughts if you were part of the Fedora team attending
foss.in or even just a participant who attended a session in the mini
conf, main conf , booth or something else.   The feedback can range from
anything about the choice of hotel, logistics, talks and everything in
between.

Me and my friend  attended mini.conf and packaging workout, it was a
nice experience for us. On packaging workout everything explained very
nicely and in talks  we got a good overview about Fedora summer of
code,  Four season summer of code, emacs etc. we also got free media
... :)

Hi,

In my opinion we can improve in one aspect. That would be to share all the
required documents like the cleartrip details with everyone using trac and
to give access to all those who are a part of the team. Rest was a really
amazing experience.

Documents like cleartrip's slip of confirmation of booking. The hotel
kept asking me about that since I reached before Amit. I don't know if
there are more similar documents. If possible and if no privacy issues
are involved then they could be shared.

There isn't any big privacy issue with that.  Just being unaware that
they would ask.

Usually hotels are happy to let you in once you tell them 'It's booked
under the name of ____'.  I in fact called them to confirm the booking
and told them various people would arrive at various times.

I did not have a problem as such.
They asked me if I have the voucher or not, I said no, they let me in.

Yeah.  Aditya had the problem since he was the first to arrive and
others didn't somehow since probably did whatever verification they had
to at that point.  Could probably have been avoided by sharing the
booking ack from the travel agent.  Something to note down for future
hotel bookings.  I will do that in the wiki.

In short, I enjoyed the show thoroughly, I am new but still met my
Fedora friends as if I had known them for long :)

Absolutely. We need x86_64 media for future events by default. If
possible more Fedora Key-chains too. Also, in case of increase in
quantity of swag, we may need to arrange for proper logistics too.
Also we could have done well if we had 2 separate banners (as in flex
banners). The table cloth came in handy though and was a valuable
article we had ;)

Talks were nice, were not repetitive, arranged in a proper order and
distributed well throughout the given time slot of the miniconf.  I
would like to know how I fared specifically though :p
