I've tried a lot of things, from wodim, to braser, to k3b and havent got
more that 15% of dvds burnt properly. Outa 5, only 1 burns properly.
I don't know about wodim, but here are some tips to narrow down
the problem:
a. Check that the ISO file you are trying to burn isn't corrupt. Quick way would
be to mount it:
$ mount -o loop -t iso9006 Fedora-11-i386-DVD.iso /mnt
$ ls /mnt
...if that works, do a shasum check:
http://fedoraproject.org/en/verify
Checked.. twice, thrice.. :(
b. If the ISO file is ok, try another tool like k3b or brasero (in fact, if I am
not mistaken, with an ISO file even a dd should work fine -- i remember doing
that a couple of times)
tried both brasero and k3b.. no difference.. just more additions to my
waste dvd pile..
c. If writing still fails, I'd suspect the media. Try blank media
from a
different set /brand -- sometimes one just gets unlucky with bad quality media.
I've tried both sony and moserbaer (the only ones you get here) .. its
too much of a coincidence if all the dvds i purchase end up bad :(
d. If all else fails report back here or on fedora-list.

I've even tried a USB writer (which i purchased in case my laptop writer
was broken). However, same results. The USB writer gets "offlined" as
dmesg says. This is followed by "rejecting IO to dead device" ( i
checked and /dev/sr1 no longer exists). Another wasted dvd.
These are the logs from the latest failed burns:

I used brasero this time. I can try more dvds with k3b and wodim and
post results if you want, if that'll help set it right. FYI, dvds burn
perfect on my vista (i use a dual boot), which saddens me further :(.
