Are you willing to followup and inquire whether we can get any good places for free or at a low cost? It is perfectly fine to inquire in multiple places, Pune, Bangalore, Delhi and so on and find out which options are suitable for us. Note that we need a fairly large place with a good internet connection as a basic requirement.

We are talking about fudcon its not a simple college event. I appreciate your willingness to help and do everything but its not gonna work out. Its not a one man job. Its teams job. Do you have a team ? I thought about Pune as most of the Redhat folks are there and they can always form some team or maybe guide some folks in a better direction.
Maybe people with expertise in conducting event of this big scale and also give their opinions .

It is not clear to me why you are objecting to him volunteering to lead the organization of a event. Fedora events such as FUDCon are community events and it is healthier to gather volunteers to participate and I am glad he has stepped up to do so. Red Hat has a presence in Pune but whatever work we put in within Fedora is voluntary as well and we have done a FAD in pune recently for logistics but I am willing to explore other places and Bangalore is not a unsuitable place at all. Hiemanshu volunteering to lead it doesn't mean he will be the only person involved and it does require more people to participate. We can all pitch in and take ownership of specific things and work as a team. If you want to inquire within Pune or help out in specific ways (posters and media for instance), you are of course welcome to do. Having more options will allow us to pick the best one. Please don't discourage anyone.
Rahul
Hi,
I am also willing to help in any possible way. Since me and Hiemanshu are working on Netbook spin, maybe we (or me only if Hiemanshu is busy) can take a demo session on that. If dates are suitable I can come to the venue a couple of days before the FUDCon and help out the organizing team.
PS: Delhi is my home town, I might be able to help there in a better way.

Is there any good places in Delhi suitable for a FUDCon? Are you willing to inquire with any contacts you might have and let us know? The requirements are listed in

Hi,
In my opinion Pragati Maidan would be a great venue for FUDCon. All the halls are equipped with wireless as well as wired internet facility. Also Pragati Maidan is easy to reach due to nearby Metro Station. We might have to book the hall as soon as possible. You can check out the availability at http://www.indiatradefair.com/exhi/status-hall.html
Right now I am in my college at BIT, Mesra not in Delhi but I'll try to contact them and get a quote.

Hey,
As I said before the thing about Pragati Maidan is that its basically all halls. We will need to setup a stage, chairs, etc. I had been to Pragati Maidan recently (around Aug 25) and well it doesn't solve what we need. We need something like a college (GNUnify anyone? ) or a nice Hall with lot of extra room (FOSS.in style) because FUDCon is done in a bar camp style. The talks are decided only for a single day and a key note for every day, and for the rest of the days, the talk are decided on day 1 of the FUDCon. Maybe Joerg (or someone who has been to one) can tell us what way the FUDCons usually go.

Sure. I have attended a couple. Someone facilitates the event and calls for speakers to step up to the stage and pitch their talks quickly. There you walk up to a white board and draw a line on the box with the talks listed and the ones with the maximum votes get chosen. There are multiple talks in parallel. Usually a main hall or two and multiple smaller rooms. Colleges and similar places are suitable because many of them have wifi and rooms and willing to host for for free or low cost. The specific requirements are listed in

I inquired about the hall in Delhi Univ [1] . Its probably negative there. I checked conference hall 7 at pragati maidan too. I have the contacts of the Govt officer in charge. If the rate [2] is ok and availability is there then I can contact. The problem in Delhi is that due to CWG may venues may not be available. I overlooked it before. We have a good auditorium and hall in CoEP, Pune where it can be arranged and has everything except a working wi-fi for the moment (we can set it up soon if required) We just had miniDeb Conf in the hall. Check [3] for a pic of Hall and [4] for Auditorium. I can check with college admin/Prof. Abhijit if its worth.

Rahul,
CWG is Common Wealth Games which are being organized in Delhi this time. Booking anything in Delhi for the month of October would be quite difficult IMO. But it should be wide open for November-December. If you want FUDCon in the month of October, Banglore or Pune would be a better location,

I have spoken to 3 unis/colleges in bangalore who might host it for a very low price (or even for free maybe), I am waiting for a reply from them. As soon as I have something, I will let everyone know about it. FYI the college names are : 1) CMRIT 2) Christ University 3) RNSIT They have a lot of open space, huge seminar halls and multiple free classrooms.

CMRIT will be a good option considering the fact that they have had a active LUG for quite sometime now and also try PESIT. I heard they have also started working on same lines.
