These messages are ok. They mean you unplugged your USB device.

See the model DK23DA-20 and vendor HITACHI? You may need to add an entry to
/etc/ubdfstab.conf.default to prepare the mounting of the usb device. Your
Sony DSC-S70 will have a description of its own that you can use to make an
entry.

Same issue.
Also, once you are have troubleshooted your issue, always manually unmount
your device before unplugging it, especially if you are performing write
operations to it.

Volume control under KDE
by roger2
Hi.
I don't seem to be able to find the volume control In KDE.
I can find various sound systems like aRTs where I can play test sound.
I can even start a CD playing and just about hear it with the laptop
physical volume control right up.
The only vol control I have found is the Bell settings which is
available if I click the use sys bell box when tested it is very loud
until turned down to 1% and off at 0%.
Help please
Acer 508 laptop FC1 dual boot win98 sound OK.
Same problem if booted straight into FC1 from switch on.

Will the fedora project be any more 'kde friendly' than RH9/8 ?

how to use "ntpd" to emulate "ntpdate"?
by Robert P. J. Day
until now, i've been using "ntpdate" to sync up the clock on my
(very mobile) laptop when i wanted to do it manually. all that
was necessary was:
# ntpdate <some stratum 2 server>
and the sync was immediate.
from the "ntpd" man page, however, ntpdate is deprecated and i can
theoretically get the same effect with some variation of "ntpd -q".
but i've tried that and the effect is (as the man page suggests) not
immediate. is there a way to have that sync take place immediately
using "ntpd", rather than waiting for the next sync operation, to
more closely emulate the behaviour of ntpdate?
or am i misreading the man page?

Re: Volume control under KDE
by Paul Vandenberg
You need to run kmix. There doesn't seem to be menu entry for it. You
can add one manually or click the application menu and "Run Command",
then type kmix. Kmix is part of the kdemultimedia package.

Adding Windows 2000 into a dual-boot after the fact?
by Preston Crawford
I have a nice, well-running, well behaved Fedora installation. I'm
thinking of buying Windows because I need to learn ASP.NET and Mono, for
all that it does well, has some shortcomings. Plus there's no good
editor for ASP.NET. Anyway, that's the "why would you want to do this"
part. As far as how I would do it, I have a second hard drive. I think I
can just install the second hard drive with Windows and then point Grub
at that drive as a possible boot point. Is that true? Or will Windows
want to erase the MBR of HDA and thus this won't be possible at all
unless I swap the places of the hard drives and reinstall GRUB onto the
new HDA?
Either way, I'd like to do this (assuming I even choose to do it) in a
fashion that doesn't ruin my Linux install.

CPU Temp under lm sensors
by Mike Chambers
I was wondering if this temp reading was inline with what it was suppose
to be or how to find out? My system is a P3 750 from Gateway.
[root@bart init.d]# sensors -fA
lm75-i2c-0-4e
temp: +71.6F (limit = +71.6F, hysteresis = +71.6F)

Re: KDE 3.1.95 rpm install
by Mark Eggers
OK, color me stupid, but what is the channel / url for the development
packages. I've gone ahead and compiled 3.1.95 via konstruct, but before
I nuke everything I want to try one last time to do this via rpms.
thanks in advance

Clean up the up2date directory, /var partition?
by Richard M. McCord
I want to thank each of you who offered such helpful, educational
advice. The humiliation I experienced some months back on the LFS IRC
channel almost prevented me from asking anything at all. It is
comforting to find a community of users who enjoy sharing their
knowledge with the ... uh ... Linux-challenged types such as I.
Thanks!
