Re: network

I check ifconfig and route, even stop iptables, I still can't ping from
or to my PC. I suspect this is the hardware problem.

I'm not seeing where an FTP client is included in the current
release of FC 2. Can anyone recommend a good one that I can yum for?

The libXt.* files are located in /usr/X11R6/lib. There is no /usr/X11 directory. Could this be an old kaffe?

advansys scsi == ouch
by John McBride
I was suprised to be doing hardware upgrades today while upgrading about
15 boxes to FC2. Mostly a matter of going to spares and getting some
adaptec scsi cards and swapping out the advansys scsi cards.
From what I can tell (doing web searches) the advansys scsi drivers are
no longer considered stable--one has to rebuild the kernel/modules using
"broken" drivers, which I won't do because I like keeping things stock
(and yum updatable). There are workarounds, like the dkms stuff, but
having used early versions of dkms for our nvidia cards, I'm very gun
shy of dkms--lots of problems with it, at least for me.
Sure caught me by suprise. It's unusual (in my limited experience) to
see kernel level support move backwards in this manner. What was
advansys thinking when they dropped the ball on kernel 2.6? (rhetorical
question).
"Thanks" adaptec for staying on top of things. I had enough spare
adaptecs to sort things out.
FC2 is working out very well for us (two days of testing and things are
great).

Problems with SCSI controller and sym53c8xx module
by Johan Totterman
Hello,
I'm running FC 2 with a 2.6.8-1.521 kernel.
My goal is to configure two or more Symbios Logic 53C875J PCI SCSI
controllers on my machine and run a couple of Unisys SCSI disk arrays
through them.
When I install only one of the Symbios controllers, everything goes
smoothly, the sym53c8xx module loads beautifully and all my SCSI devices
are attached properly.
However, when I install a second Symbios card into my machine I run into
problems. I have tried all my tricks, but I still can't get throuh the
modprobe. This is what it says:
[root@d84 root]# modprobe sym53c8xx
sym0: Symbios NVRAM, ID 14, Fast-20, HVD, parity checking
sym0: open drain IRQ line driver, using on-chip SRAM
sym0: using LOAD/STORE-based firmware.
sym0: SCSI BUS has been reset.
sym1: Symbios NVRAM, ID 15, Fast-20, HVD, parity checking
sym1: open drain IRQ line driver, using on-chip SRAM
sym1: using LOAD/STORE-based firmware.
sym1: SCSI BUS has been reset.
sym1:0:0: ABORT operation started.
sym1:0:0: ABORT operation timed-out.
sym1:0:0: DEVICE RESET operation started.
sym1:0:0: DEVICE RESET operation timed-out.
sym1:0:0: BUS RESET operation started.
sym1:0:0: BUS RESET operation timed-out.
sym1:0:0: HOST RESET operation started.
sym1: SCSI BUS has been reset.
This output is from a run where I don't have any disks physically
attached to the controllers. All ports are terminated properly. If I
attach my disk arrays, I can see the module load all the disks that are
atached to the first controller, but it still hangs in the same way as
when ran without any disks. The modprobe hangs and won't exit/finish.
Do you have any ideas how to solve this problem? Are there some
parameters that I should give the sym53c8xx module? Have I missed
something important in the Symbios PCI BIOS?
Thanks in advance for any ansvers!

: Not sure how the "Pro's" do it, but what you probably need to do is assign
group permissions on the file to the user that : php runs as. I think it is
the user apache runs as which on fedora is either apache or nobody. (I
think that depends on : if you installed from source or RPM
: files)
: Then you would need 770 permissions which mean the owner and the group
have read/write permissions and others (the world) : have no permissions on
that file.
: (770 translates to -rwxrwx---)
Hi
Yepp Yepp!!!
This did the trick :-)
Changed group owner to apache (which is the user and group my apache runs
under)
Did'nt find any user/group in the php.conf file so it looks like it using
the same user as the web server - like you said.
I changed the permission to 770 and tested the guestbook and everything
works just fine.
Thanks
