SSH Virtual Terminals
by James Thorpe
Hi All,
Quick question - is it possible to get access to the same virtual
terminals through ssh as you would normally have access to using
ctrl-alt-fx on the machine itself?
Thanks,
James.

yes, I have that, but when boot up I see an error that
say /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol01 cannot be converted as a
device id.

CPU frequency.
by Strong
I want to optimize my kernel (2.6.12) to be at the lowest frequency when
idle (to save power) and to be fully loaded when busy. I've read CPUfreq
in the kernel doc still didn't understand how I should configure my
kernel. As I understood it's possible to set it statically to the
highest/lowest freq. and there are some programs called userspace ones
that can control it dynamically but they got to have root permissions,
so not many (almost all)... So what's the best decision here?

Installation of kernel-source
by nicolas Gourlé
Hi,
I use Fedora Core 4 with kernel [2.6.11-1.1369_FC4] and I want to install Kav5.5 (Kaspersky), in order to complete the installation I had to give the path of the kernel source. I think it is not installed on my system... I search on rpmfind.net the rpm kernel-source.2.6.11-1.1369_FC4.rpm but it doesn't exist, I just found kernel-source package for FC1 and FC2. I want to know how to install kernel source, and where can I found?
Excuze me for my english...

FC4 on Compaq Evo N1000v
by Tarjei Knapstad
Having a bit of a struggle here getting X up and running on the above
mentioned laptop. I've added a comment to this bugzilla entry:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=159927
but thought I'd try to reach a broader audience here. Does anyone know
what I need to do to xorg.conf to get this up and running in the
"native" 1400x1050 resolution? (Well, any resolution for that matter...)
Thanks in advance,

Brian,
All such cards have had limited capabilities and questionable
compatibility in many hosts. The problem is one of real estate (or lack
thereof): you simply can't cram everything from an ATX motherboard onto a
PCI card.
You would probably have far better luck running your guest OS in a VMware
virtual machine. To get decent performance in the guest you'll need a
first rate host: premium CPU, lots of RAM, and a fast drive with about 20
GB for the guest's virtual disk. VMware5 supports a wide range of
x86-based guest OS's including Windows, MS-DOS, Solaris x86, NetWare,
Linux, ... See http://www.vmware.com.
Xen might be an alternative, but it's still developmental, is limited to
Linux guests, and requires the same additional resources as VMware.
