up2date gone?

After I updated my Fedora Core 4 system the last time I can't get
up2date to work. When I attempt to start it as root nothing happens. If
I try to start it as a user I get the window to type the root password
into and when I hit enter everytihing vanishes. Has anyone else had
this problem. If I try to reinstall the up2date rpm it says that it is
already instlalled.

Issues with flash USB drives and KVM

I'm using an IOGear CGS1734 usb KVM switch with a Dell
2405FPW monitor. The monitor has a USB hub built into it,
through which I've attached my Logitech Cordless Comfort Duo
mouse and keyboard.
The monitor also has CF and memory stick readers built into it.
The issue is that when I switch the KVM, the USB flash drives
come and go... And I end up seeing something like:

Oddly, this happens only on a VIA Epia SP-13000 running FC3
(updated). But I haven't seen it on an MSI 7142 (K8MM-V)
motherboard also running FC3 (in x86_64 mode).
Any ideas about what I'm seeing and what the work-around is?

Bittorrent Broken on FC4?

I was running bittorrent (BitTorrent-4.0.2-1.noarch.rpm) find on
FC3. I have installed FC4, and installed
BitTorrent-4.0.4-1.noarch.rpm. I now get:

The bittorrent site does not appear to have any user support tools
(mail list, wiki, etc.).

is there any mp3 manager for linux?

Hi,
I have around 40GB full of mp3s. Right now I am using
xmms in FC4. My problem is searching a particular mp3.
$ ls -R | grep "name".mp3 doesn't work because some
are ripped with filenames like "AudioTrack 01.mp3"
etc. but these files have ID3 tags already there when
it was used with windows media player before.
Is there a utility or addons for xmms (like those in
media player, winamp etc.) or separate program, which
can manage all those mp3 based on Album,Year, Gnere
etc.?

I have a game huntforgold-0.5.8, that needsa java:

You'll need to set the JAVA_HOME variable to point to your Java
installation
F.ex: export JAVA_HOME=/usr/local/j2sdk1.4.2_02
I looked at the FC4 CDs and found a lot of java-related at least as I
suppose packages. So, which one should I install to order to have java
(play the game)?

Captive Environment

We would like to set up an account with a limited, captive
environment. Basically we want the account to run an application when
a user logs into it, and limit the user to only interacting with the
application program.

CD stopped working under FC3...

Hi,
This has me puzzled, I can no longer play CDs on my FC3 box. Putting a CD into
the drive seems to just spin it with the access light flashing and after a while
nothing. The last time I used it (probably last week) it brought up Gnome-CD
and played fine. All updates are current. AFAIK I have not changed anything
(intentionally).

how to install a printer in FC4 CLI only

Hi,
I have a new install of FC4 and I have printing problems. I am trying to
make sure I can print but I have no idea what CUPS has done to the printing
process. Also is printing a big problem for others with FC4? I haven't had a
lot of problems with prior releases.
I thought you would run redhat-config-printing and let it detect your
printer etc. I have no desktop tools or icons for printers so I will have to
set up and make it recognize the printer entirely CLI.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Printer configuration

Hi,
I'm totally lost:
My Laserjet 4+ prints a few millimeters too high, in other words, the upper margin is too small.
I can't correct that whatever I try. I have tried to edit the /etc/cups/ppd/LJ4.ppd -file and
the margin and page-top/bottom values in Applications->System Settings->Printing. In every
occasion I have restarted or HUPed the cups.
Nothing changes... Please help the little frustrated soul out...
