A question on yum, or maybe on prelink
by Timothy Murphy
When I run yum, I repeatedly get these same two comments
on empty prelink files:
=========================================================
Running Transaction
Updating : gamin ####################### [ 1/82]
/sbin/ldconfig: File /usr/lib/libkmailprivate.so.0.0.0.#prelink#.tLlQRT
is empty, not checked.
/sbin/ldconfig: File /usr/lib/libknewstuff.so.1.0.0.#prelink#.U5Zl2S
is empty, not checked.
=========================================================
They don't seem to matter,
but is there anything I could do about it?

mplayerplug-in for FC4 x86_64
by Robert Bell
Sorry if this has been sent twice, I never saw my post show up on the
list
Has anyone seen an RPM for mplayerplug-in 2.85 on FC4 x86_64? I've been
searching all day and no luck. Compiling from source isn't going much
better:
Source/plugin.cpp: In member function 'virtual NPError
nsPluginInstance::SetWindow(NPWindow*)':
Source/plugin.cpp:593: error: cast from 'void*' to 'unsigned int' loses
precision
Source/plugin.cpp:618: error: cast from 'void*' to 'unsigned int' loses
precision
make: *** [plugin.o] Error 1
If anyone has this working on x86_64 FC4 *please* let me know.

I added these lines to my modprobe.conf. Runlevel 6 and 5 show my mixer
settings being saved. I was having problems with changes that I had
made to my mixer getting changed back. This seemed to fix it.
I use FC4.
Someone else sent me similar lines for an intel sound card. You can
check on the list. So I think it can help if your losing your settings
and it probably won't hurt.

wmv files
by Lokrin
I am using FC2 and Firefox 1.0.3
I can download a wmv file and it opens in Totem fine, but I have to
right click and download the file. Otherwise I get a message for CLICK
HERE TO DOWNLOAD PLUGIN and it is unable to find a suitable plugin.
Can I convince firefox to use totem as a plugin for these files?
Following is the webpage code (reformatted for visibility, was one
straight line):

Just a little joke. There is no distortion now.

It does. But I am pretty sure (it was over a month ago -- so I can't be
100% certain) I muted the IEC958. Maybe it was through gnome volume
manager. This time I used alsamixer and it seems to have stuck. Is it
possible the gnome volume manager is not working correctly. Anyhow, the
distortion seems to have been corrected. (BTW, What is IEC958??)

I have never experienced sound being played just because I purposefully
or accidentally focused on a file. I doesn't happen when I am another
user. If its normal, I'll leave it alone.
Don't forget I have been working on this for six weeks now, starting
from complete sound ignorance. I have probably double thought myself
into all kinds of problems and misunderstandings. Hearing that
something is alright can be as important as hearing it needs to be
fixed.

Fixed -- I think. I am leery that it will get changed back.

see above I thought it was muted.

What should I do about it??
Bugzilla just sent me the following:
Summary: distorted sound with es1371
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=161279
Added new HW switch to c-s-c (in rawhide) to bypass dmix.
The change seems to be only in "rawhide" -- a RedHat version. Does this
mean anything for my sound problems?
My other problems persist.

Setting up PCI Wireless (Kudzu didn't find the hardware)

Hello,
After installing FC 4 (minimal installation), I tried adding a PCI Wireless

Here is the output of lspci. How should I set the wireless card? Is it
supported in FC 4 ? Thank you for any help.

FC3 updated
One of my systems ran the monthly cron jobs in /etc/cron.monthly on 7/31
and also on 8/1. Does anyone know what would cause this? I did check
that there were not duplicates there.

up2date problems?
by K. Richard Pixley
On a freshly loaded fc4 box, I'm getting an error when attempting to run
"up2date -u kernel". The error is:
An error has occurred
exceptions.KeyError
Who can tell me what I need to do to get it working like fc3 did? (Or
any other way that works.)
