Couple of Scripts
by Thomas Paine
I am looking for a couple of scripts to do the following.
1. I would like a script that can look at my messages file and show me
how many times and when I get disconnected from my isp. Then post this
to a simple webpage on my server.
2. Another script that will look at maillog and tell me what messages
are rejected. Some of my users are concerned they are not getting
legitimate email and with mailscanner and some snert milters running,
I'm not sure the best way to figure this out.
Does anyone have some already made? I would think that there would be
other people doing this.
Thanks in advance.

Security policy preventing access to floppy
by Simon Slater
G'day,
Recently the computer the kids use has been giving this error when
trying to mount a floppy:
Error - kio_media_mounthelper.
A security policy in place prevents this sender from sending this
message to this recipient. See message bus configuration file. (rejected
message had interface "org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume" member "Mount"
error none"(unset)" destination "org.freedesktop.Hal")
When attempting to format a floppy the error is:
Internal error: device not correctly defined.
It is running KDE under FC6. Is the problem with SELinux or
automounting? Where is the message bus configuration file and what
would need changing? I don't know where to start with this one. I'll
appreciate the help but the kids probably won't - they use the floppy
drive for homework.

Network install FC7
by Bill Davidsen
I want to install FC8 on a machine without a DVD, but with a CD drive. I
decided the easy way is to do a network install, and put the DVD image
on my file server. However, after trying the install command on both the
rescue CD and the boot.iso from the DVD, and exporting the data by both
NFS and HTTP, I'm beginning to think that there is a serious omission in
the "quick and easy" guide. The install pulls the stage2 file off the
server and then says it can't pull the file off the server and invites
reconfiguration. I can most definitely pull the file with correct md5sum
using either protocol.
Looking at te HTTP access in the httpd/access log, it looks af if the
install looks first in the "disk1" directory, then directly in images,
but it finds the file just fine.
One possible problem, this is an Athlon processor (K7) and I can find
distributions for i686, x86_64, and pcc, but none for i386 (the RPMs say
i686 in the 386 directory), or for Athlon. Because FC8 works, I assume
this is configuration rather than needing a different build.
Is there a simple trick or a pointer to valid instructions? I can
install FC8 on the machine just fine, but pulling a pre-release
distribution over a slow (4Mbit) network is not what I want other than a
proof of concept.

installing fedora on ASUS P5K-E
by Brad Karain
FC4 just says it finds no compatible drivers. Do I need to be installing
FC8? Has anyone had trouble installing fedora on the P5K-E motherboards?

Compatible Winmodems?
by Brian
I'd like a cheap internal modem to be used for inbound and outbound
faxing. (<$15) I suspect my only route is a Winmodem for that price.
I've searched a few sites but haven't had luck correlating modem to
chipset used.
Can anyone point me to a compatible Winmodem for use under FC7?
Thanks!

FC8 repositor broken?
by Bill Davidsen
I haven't done an update in several days, so I started yum to check if
upgrades were needed. I got a list and started the update, and was told
gecko-libs was out of date, and is used by everything. Since it's not a
package, I did this:
localhost:root> yum provides gecko-libs
Loading "refresh-updatesd" plugin
firefox.i386 : Mozilla Firefox Web browser.
firefox.i386 : Mozilla Firefox Web browser.
firefox.i386 : Mozilla Firefox Web browser.
localhost:root> yum upgrade firefox
Loading "refresh-updatesd" plugin
Setting up Upgrade Process
Resolving Dependencies
--> Running transaction check
--> Processing Dependency: gecko-libs = 1.8.1.8 for package: yelp
---> Package firefox.i386 0:2.0.0.9-1.fc8 set to be updated
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: Missing Dependency: gecko-libs = 1.8.1.8 is needed by package yelp
localhost:root>
I always get a bad feeling when something is treated as if it were a
package but isn't... so:
localhost:root> yum --enablerepo=updates-testing list '*gecko*'
Loading "refresh-updatesd" plugin
Available Packages
gecko-sharp2.i386 0.12-5.fc8 fedora
gecko-sharp2-devel.i386 0.12-5.fc8 fedora
localhost:root>
No gecko-lib package, can't upgrade firefox which supposedly provides
the libs, now what?

Suspend changes resolution
by Geoffrey Leach
ASUS Z84F
kernels
/vmlinuz-2.6.22.5-76.fc7
/vmlinuz-2.6.23.1-10_1.cubbi_tuxonice.fc7
xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.3.0.0-9.fc7
When I suspend and re-activate the resolution of the display is changed
to a lower (lowest??) value. There's no response to a change via
Preferences -> Hardware -> Screen Resolution, although the value is
remembered. To restore the display I need to log out and in again.
Any suggestions?

Semi OT: Subversion
by Ashley M. Kirchner
Just a bit OT here... I'm trying to figure out whether I can do
this with subversion or not: We're starting to revamp one of our
websites, but are keeping the current one live and slowly push updated
code out. Right now we have our live server and we have a dev server
which is a mirror of the live one (or started out as such.) Is there
some way to incorporate subversion into this process where our
developers can use it such as:
a) They can check out files they're going to work on, then back in
when they're done. But have it setup in such a ay that those files are
accessible through the normal http protocol so they can look at it
through a browser (as if they're just browsing a website, NOT browsing
code.)
b) When we approve the updated code, a way to then push them through
to the live server.
I know one can have a web "view" of all the files, but that's
looking at the actual code (and this will still need to be available)
however we also want the repository setup in such a way that they can
view the actual site as they're working on code. And once we can
approve the updates, someone (probably me) will then push the new
changes from this dev server onto the live one. And on the live one, we
would need a way to roll back if something breaks, however unlikely.
So, has anyone ever done this? Is there documentation somewhere
that anyone can point out to me? Thanks!
