pptp-linux (pptp) on a Fedora DVD
by Kevac Marko
Hello.
Here, in Russian Federation, 90% of home internet providers use PPTP
for the internet access.
So 80% of Fedora users from Russian Federation have same problem of
installing and configuring pptp client. It includes very unpleasant
"go to another box with internet connection, download rpm package, go
back and install it".
I don't know what situation is in another countries with pptp, but i
be very glad to see pptp client on a Fedora DVD.
So, questions are:
1. Why pptp package is still not there? Some license issues?
2. Will it be included in Fedora DVD?
3. How can i help?

I don't want my home directory to be my Gnome desktop
by Colin Paul Adams
So I do:
Applications->System Tools->Configuration editor
And then I go to apps->nautilus->preferences
But the option:
desktop_is_home_dir
although set to false (the checkbox is not ticked) appears as ticked
in the icon on the left (in the name column).
and consequently I see all my sub-directories on the dektop (which
makes it far too crowded).
Do I need to check the permissions of ~/Desktop, or is there some
other option that needs changing?

Is there a f8 Live CD that can be used for installatiion?
by Aaron Konstam
The subject says it all.

=======================================================================
In the olden days in England, you could be hung for stealing a sheep or
a loaf of bread. However, if a sheep stole a loaf of bread and gave it
to you, you would only be tried for receiving, a crime punishable by
forty lashes with the cat or the dog, whichever was handy. If you stole
a dog and were caught, you were punished with twelve rabbit punches,
although it was hard to find rabbits big enough or strong enough to
punch you. -- Mike Harding, "The Armchair Anarchist's Almanac"

gimp 2.4 in 8?
by Colin Brace
Hi all,
Maybe I overlooked it, but I didn't see any mention in the release notes of
whether the long-awaited new Gimp 2.4 made it in to this release. Can
someone check for me?
I will be installing 8 shortly...
TIA

Can't get gnome-panel to start off centre
by Chris G
I want to run a gnome-panel (Top Panel) at top right of my screen
rather than across the whole top of the screen.
It would appear that this should be possible as there are parameters
to do this in the Configuration Editor (gconf-editor).
In apps/panel/toplevels/top_panel I have set:-
expand false
x 1020
x_centered false
but something somewhere is resetting the x and x_centered parameters.
Can anyone suggest what's doing this?

Is there a Gnome GUI equivalent of phpmyadmin?
by Chris G
Gnome has mysql-administrator for administering mysql but that is an
administrator utility only, it doesn't seem to provide a way of
creating tables etc.
Is there a Gnome GUI equivalent of the part of phpmyadmin that allows
one to create tables, delete tables, display data, etc.?

Running nautilus hijacks my window manager
by Chris G
When I run nautilus it does something diabolical to my window manager!
I run fvwm2 as my window manager and it's lovely. However if I start
nautilus it clobbers everything, the background colour changes
slightly, but more to the point I can no longer get my mouse menus by
clicking on the background. What's it doing and how can I get my
fvwm2 back apart from by shutting down and restarting (which in itself
is quite difficult because I normally do that via one of the
mouse-click menus)?
