XEN kernel limits eth to 100 rather than 1000
by Mark Hutchinson
Fresh install of F8.
With NON-Xen kernel ethtool eth0 shows 1000/full
With Xen kernel ethtool peth0 shows 100/fulll with support for 1000.
"ethtool -s eth0 speed 1000 duplex full" returns but does not change the
speed to 1000. Stays at 100
If there something odd about Xen and networking gig?

I have compiz working but would like to use compiz-fusion and its

Thanks.

With a fully updated F8 Test 3 system, I had no problem connecting to
my AP using WPA2-PSK. Although I do not have the system before right
now, I am sure that I simply selected "WPA PSK" from nm-applet's drop
down menu, entered my AP's password, and selected connect.
If you continue to have difficulty connecting, try unhidding your AP's
ESSID. I know some WLAN cards, i.e. Intel 3945s, have, or used to
have, difficulty associating with APs with hidden ESSIDs.
Best of luck,

error, missing dependency, and it's the kernel
by Tim
Hi,
Just wondering about something in general: From time to time I get a
yum error about trying to update something like an nvidia kernel module
not being possible because there's no kernel available to go along with
that version.
Trying several different mirrors doesn't help, and I can't be bothered
to go trying them all out. I'll just wait a few days for things to
settle.
But how have they compiled their module for a kernel that isn't
available? Surely that's a bit chicken and eggish? Wouldn't they be
compiling against a customised Fedora kernel, rather than one from
somewhere else? And, if so, why don't we have the same one available to
us?

[OT] Digital camara
by Martin Marques
Hi all, sorry for the OT, but as many people here have more knowledge
then me on this topic I'll just ask.
I'm about to by a digital camara and I was looking at a Panasonic Lumix
with 5MP and 6x optical zoom.
I tend to see the 6x zoom more interesting then having 7 or more MP, but
I'd like to know if I should go for more MP or stay with the good zoom.
Once againg, sorry for the OT.

I took the easy way out, copied the WinXP data to another location,
converted the ntfs formatted /dev/sdb2 partition to ext3, remounted it,
and copied the WinXP data back to it. Took the time to reorganize some
of the data. Created the new shares in samba, and all seems to be
working now. Each user can connect to their share, but not the share of
the other users.

Selinux fun
by Karl Larsen
On F8 I left selinux set up as protection. Today I was d/l the many
files needed to support the VLC viewer. I got a selinux message saying
it was not allowing certain files to be installed. That is when I turned
off selinux.
How can anyone be expected to use this software when it screws up
everything your trying to do?
