Re: ftp slow w/ proftpd# Samba fast
by Excalibur Xcalibur
vsftpd simply rocks. Even wu-ftpd works fast. That proftpd seems to be a
piece of sh*t!
Security is one thing. Annoying users is another. What good is it to have a
super secure system when my users spend hours to download or upload files?
I'm pretty sure vsftpd can be configure or patched.

A WM gets you by. A DE can even help you brush your teeth:-) I am not a great
fan of DEs and don't use one, but a lightweight DE will enable more of the
masses to use F than W.

This is exactly my view also. Note the difference between xubuntu and its
bloated counterpart. Bloat is the antithesis of the linux/oss environment and
reminds me of the infamous quote of one moneyed evangelical: people will not
care about bloat because they will be ready to buy newer hardware. Remember
1995 in a different context?

setting up clamav av from the command line
by Scott Berry
Hello there,
I want clamav to scan my whole system and from what I understand is I need to add something to the kernel I will have to look at the name of the package but is this package available in rpm to go ahead and add in to the kernel or do I need to add it myself? Secondly, how in the world do I actually get clamav to get busy? I would like to set it up so that it scans at 1 a.m. every night through the whole operating system and also like it to download updates at 8:00 A.m. each morning. The time is Central Standard UIs Time. Thanks for the help.

Fedora 7 temporary boot
by potat0
I am still new to fedora and overall linux, also I successfully
installed Fc6. My problem is that the boot I am trying to install
Fedora 7 but everytime i restart and go to boot disk with key f12 the
cd will only boot for like 10 seconds and then stop spinning. The cd
itself is clean has no scratches whatsoever its brand new.
Im ready to give up on fedora and maybe go back to windows but if i
cant solve this prob then im set. Thanks

32 or 64 bit
by roland
Hello,
Sorry for asking this question on this forum, but on the forum of K12ltsp
nobody answers, and this is a general question.
I have a server with 2 x Xeon dual core processors.I installed Centos el5
x86_64, then vmware server and now I like to install K12ltsp. On the
download page from k12ltsp I have a choice of fedora 32 or 64 bit. What do
I choose?
On the Fedora site I find x86_64 but not on K12ltsp. Do they mean by 64 =>
X86_64?
Thanks and again sorry

Fc7: kernel-2.6.22-x86-64 + nvidia-any + quake4 = reboot
by Jorge Boscan Etura
Hi
I own a presario v6000 (dv6139eu exactly) with many issues that i been
solving since fc6
but with this one, I`m clueless.
I installed and played quake4 (it is a great game!!), but when I
updated the kernel to 2.6.22
to fix some issues like random crashes, freeze, the graphics turned
ugly so I went back to 96xx legacy nvidia driver version and continued
playing till I finished the hole game (several sessions) but today
with the same driver, the same kernel, the same game, it just reboots,
with googleearth does the same and with mplayer did the same once, I'm
not using beryl or compiz, xorg.conf is well configured
btw: dont buy compaq-hp laptops to run linux

unable to mount usb
by potat0
I'm somewhat of a newbie to linux. Since the last kernel update from
1-33 to 1-41 I am unable to mount and unmount my usb drive. I can
still mount/unmount as root, but I can no longer mount/unmount the
drive as user since the last kernel update, as mounting the drive as
root is somewhat of a pain. Has anyone else experienced this or know
of a fix?
