Re : I'm ready to give up Linux
by Croombe F. Pensom
There's something fishy here. I've now been using Linux in various
distros on a variety of systems for several years now starting out with
Mandrake 8.0. I never found the switch from Windoze to be stressful.
More, I found the switch to have been a very positive experience : first
and foremost, NO MORE BLUE SCREENS, NO MORE INEXPLICABLE HALTS, NO MORE
NEED FOR REPEATED REBOOTS AND GONE ARE THE WEEKLY RE-INSTALLS.
I have tried many, many distros and found that, particularly in the
install process, they have been quicker, simpler and more able to locate
hardware than have the various Windoze versions (W95, W98, XP and 2000).
Every Linux distro I've tried has been STABLE and each works as promised
though I did find that some are easier to use and install than others,
but that's a minor quibble.
I would NEVER EVER go back to Windoze even if you paid me : and you'd
have to pay me a lot to even get my attention.

keyboard
by roland
Hello,
I installed Fedora 6 and need a french or belgian keyboard. The system
starts in 'as far I can see' in US-keyboard. So I open
'system->administration->keyboard', which starts with the right keyboard.
After confirmation, the keyboard is ok. When I close the session and
restart, the keyboard is again US. I looked in de preferences and there
the setting looks ok, nl-be. If I try to change that, I get an error. See
Attached file.
It is the second installation with this problem.
Thanks for you help.

Fedora 7 : Fresh Install, defaulted to Runlevel 3
by Arthur Pemberton
I installed F7 graphically via NFS, and on first bootup of F7 got
defaulted to runlevel 3.
When I changed this to runlevel 5, I got no firstboot. Had to edit
/ets/sysconfig/firstboot to get it.
The only thing I can think of is that I chose KDE instead of Gnome.

fc6 and adaptec hardware raid error.
by Jegadeesh
Heloo All,
I have fc6 installed on my machine which has a HostRaid enabled
adaptec card . And I have connected two SCSI disks to it and
configured RAID-0 (Striping).
Each conneted disk is of 73 GB
When I issue fdisk -l it shows both sda as 73 GB and sdb as 73 Gb.
Now my question is how do I access the disk as array? What names
should I use to access the raid device.
lspci shows this.
03:01.0 RAID bus controller: Adaptec ASC-29320 U320 w/HostRAID (rev 03)
03:01.1 SCSI storage controller: Adaptec ASC-29320 U320 (rev 03)
I also tried creating a linux partition on the sda and sdb and created
reiserfs file system.
But when I try to mount it, the system says
"mount: /dev/sda1 already mounted or /disk1 busy"
please help me what procedure I should follow to configure the
hardware raid in fc6
Thanks

I looked at bugzilla and noted your bug report was about external USB
drives and i386. I added my similar experience concerning hard disk NTFS
partitions and x86_64. Automounting stopped on 25th July, the date
selinux-policy and selinux-policy-targeted packages were updated here.
Then I was still using 2.6.21-1.3228.fc7 kernel, but the same thing (no
automount) is still true now that I'm using 2.6.22.1-33.fc7 kernel.
My 2 c.

Automate Web Page Searching
by Paul Ward
Hi,
Not sure if there is such a thing but, does anyone know a way of
searching php web content automaticly using software.
e.g going to facebook, loggin in and if a posting on my page by a
friend has happened go to the link and load up the full article if a
link is contained in this text then go to the link etc.
I have never heard of such a tool, lynx is not capable is there another way?
Thanks

FC7+Laptop+networked home folder
by Bjørge Solli
Hi,
I'm just wondering how sysadms around the community solves the problem
of adding laptops into a system of centralized login (LDAP) and home
folder (cifs/nfs). I have worked out the login part[1], but wondering
how to set up the home folder The Best Way.

Fedora 7, PXE and e1000
by Peter Bosgraaf
Hi,
I'm running into some trouble installing Fedora 7 using pxeboot.
I've searched the forum/mailinglist but did not find a complete answer,
that's why i'm posting my question.
My server has two e1000 compatible NICs.
I've found some forum posts that explain e1000 issues with Fedora 7 but
i could not verify that i'm having the same problem.
I'm seeing the following:
After anaconda starts it will request a IP using dhcp.
On the dhcp-server i see incoming requests and outgoing acks.
For some reason anaconda can't access the network after the dhcp request.
This will result in anaconda giving me an error saying that it can't
access the installation tree.
It looks like anaconda/dhclient doesn't pick up the ACK, or something's
preventing network access.
Unfortunately it's too early in the bootstage for me to check. (ALT-F2
doesn't have a shell yet)
A ping from the dhcp-server to the acked IP address results in 100%
packetloss.
When i use the same parameters in FC6 everything works smoothly.
Has anyone had a similar experience?
Best regards,
Peter
