Printing Problems
by Michael Pennington
I am running FC8 on X86_64. I have an Epson Photo Stylus RX595 printer.
Down loaded drive "pitslite", everything has been running OK until the
last CUPS upgrade. Now it only prints in Landscape mode and the font
size is the size of a ant (-99). Need help.

which takes precedence?
by tony.chamberlain@lemko.com
I have a machine running SMP whose grub entry is
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.9-55.ELsmp ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 rhgb quiet 3
(and uname -a: Linux 8mile 2.6.9-55.ELsmp #1 SMP) BUT Runlevel N 5
I used to set runlevel by making id 3 in /etc/inittab:
id:3:initdefault:
Management said not to use inittab but rather grub.conf. Explains before why even when
id in inittab was 5, the runlevel would be 3.
But now, in grub.conf there is the 3 (as above) at the end of the kernel line (5 in inittab) and
it is coming up in level 5 after reboot. So which has precedence, inittab or grub.conf and
why is it coming up 5?

We have very few mirrors in India to begin with. While we generally
request mirrors have 100Mbit or faster connections, we will make
exceptions for areas where we have few mirrors and where we have had
little luck finding volunteers to run faster ones.
Matching users to mirrors based on country isn't perfect, and I'm
always open to better algorithms. I recently added a lookup for
clients and mirrors connected via Internet2 or one of its peers. If
someone can describe how to better guess the network topology, exactly
for cases such as yours, I'm all ears.
Thanks,
Matt

No more kmod-nvidia for kernel 2.6.24.4-64.fc8
by Joachim Backes
After Installating the most recent updates dated of april 03 2008 (containing kernel
2.6.24.4-64.fc8) and rebooting, I removed the old kernel 2.6.24.3-50.fc8. Withing this removing
process I saw that all nvidia packages belonging the removed kernel were removed too.
The I tried an "yum install kmod-nvidia", but this was rejected:
Error: Missing Dependency: kernel-x86_64 = 2.6.24.3-50.fc8 is needed by package
kmod-nvidia-2.6.24.3-50.fc8
Remarks?
Regards

ups with nut and hal
by Amadeus W.M.
Does anyone have nut with hal working for a ups connected to a usb port?
I'm trying to get mine to work, and the docs say gnome-power-manager
should pop-up and let me see and do things, but nothing happened.
lsusb sees the ups on a usb port, but that's all I can say. I believe no
driver is being loaded for the ups, so probably hal (or maybe udev) is
not doing what should be doing. I'll be happy to provide any necessary
information to figure this out. I'd appreciate any clue from anyone who
has this thing working under hal.
Thanks!
