Has anyone used BackupPC straight out of the box?
by Arch Willingham
In the past, I have successfully installed Backup PC by installing it from the files from the source at http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/ but have never been able to get it to work via the version that comes with Fedora FC8 or FC9 (I.E. the version hat installed when you install via yum or add-remove programs in Fedora). Has anyone out there ever been able to get it to work?
Thanks!

Network strangeness
by Aaron Konstam
I have two machines on a home network:
cyrus - wireless
saturn - wired
On cyrus : ping saturn and host saturn both fail saying saturn can't be
found. However, ssh saturn works.
On saturn: ping cyrus works but host cyrus fails.
ssh cyrus, works
I don't use iptables. Any explanations for this behavior?
Errors are like:
** server can't find saturn: NXDOMAIN
I suspect that some things use the local /etc/host bu others do not.

User Keyboard problems
by Jim
One User has lost use of Keyboard on his home directory, If you hold a
key down for about 5sec the character for that key will appear.
Went into the KDE /Control Center/Peripherals and settings for keyboard
was the same as for another normal working box.
Where is the keyboard controlled (file) from a users home directory ?
Holding down 'shift key' for 10 secs doesn't make any difference either.
The other three users on this same box has use of keyboard on their home
directory.

Anybody deploy grsecurity on Fedora?
by McGuffey, David C.
Have been watching the PaX and grsecurity efforts for a while, but
haven't had a need to add them to a Linux box yet...either for a
customer, or in a lab for playing.
I noticed that the PaX stuff seems to now be merged into grsecurity. The
most recent release of grsecurity has some interesting security features
I'm interested in testing.
Anyone deploy grsecurity on a recent Fedora release (7 or 8) or RHEL 4
or 5? If so, any problems, lessons learned, or tips?

should be simple, but
by tony.chamberlain@lemko.com
if I have a library, e.g. libstdc++.so, there should be a simple Linux command
to list the contents (i.e. functions) in that library, but I cannot find it.
I found nm but that says "no symbols" and ar isn't right either.
Google was not very cooperative.
I am sure there is a simple answer.

CPU Throttling
by Srikanth Konjarla
All,
I run Fedora 8 on Tecra M5.
http://www.smolts.org/show?uuid=pub_f72f9650-72f0-4d83-9c51-0cb13856226b
It appears that the CPU throttling is not available. While, the suspend
resume and function keys work (brightness, sound etc) wondering why the
CPU throttling does not work and i also suspect that causes the FAN to
run all the time. Is there a workaround or patch?
Thanks
