Domain of sender address ... does not exist
by Philip Prindeville
I'm occasionally seeing the following error:
This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.
A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:
philipp...(a)redfish-solutions.com
(generated from xyzzy(a)users.sourceforge.net)
SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<philipp...(a)redfish-solutions.com>:
host mail.redfish-solutions.com [66.232.79.143]:
553 5.1.8 <philipp...(a)redfish-solutions.com>... Domain of sender address philipp...(a)redfish-solutions.com does not exist
This is on an externally generated email that is coming into my domain
(redfish-solutions.com). The mailbox name is valid (it's been munged
here to protect against spam address harvesters).
Looked at the cf/cf/generic-linux.cf briefly, but it's been too long
since I've munged .cf files (these days I cop out and us the .mc
versions instead).
What's going on, and how do I fix it?
Thanks,
-Philip

Installation plays hardball
by Garrick Sitongia
I just installed Fedora for the first time on my Windows/Linux dual boot
system. The Fedora installer gave me the option of installing over the
present linux installation on the disk, an old Mandriva version. I
assumed this meant the operating system partition. There were 2 other
unrelated ext3 partitions for photo archives and e-mail backup. After
booting into Fedora I discovered that the Fedora installer wiped every
linux partition without confirmation or consent. I have installed other
versions of Linux and I have always been given a choice. Your installer
should indicate that ALL linux type file systems will be wiped, in
addition to the operating system file system.

Webstart
by Oliver Ruebenacker
Hello,
This one opens fine under any Windows or Mac computer I can get hold
of, but not on my F11:
$javaws http://vcell.org/webstart/Rel/vcell.jnlp
netx: Unexpected net.sourceforge.jnlp.ParseException: Invalid XML
document syntax. at
net.sourceforge.jnlp.Parser.getRootNode(Parser.java:1200)
I'm not sure when was the last time this worked under F11. Any hope
this will work in the near future?
Take care
Oliver

Changing GNOME "default" directories
by Boggiano
Hello all,
how can I change the position of the "default" directories in GNOME ?
For example, I'd like to change Download directory from
"$HOME/Download" to "/Data/Download".
I changed the line XDG_DOWNLOAD_DIR="$HOME/Download" in the file
/home/myuser/.config/user-dirs.dirs, logout/login, but no effects.
Where 's the trick ?
Thanks
Alessandro

Hi Chris,
The original command was
tar cvzf F11_Home_Dave_20091217.tar.gz /home/Dave
and the "problem" is that tar tvh F11*gz lists all the files on the F11
desktop, but when the external HDD is transferred to the F12 laptop, tar
tvh (and ark) give the errors quoted...
The reason I went with tar tvh was (to try) to check the contents of
the file after "open with ark" in Dollphin spat out the errors. I guess
that actually trying to extract the files when the table of contents
fails would not be any more successful?
Thanks

How many people need to use the proprietary nvidia driver ? (Or other non kms driver ?)
by linux guy
Please reply if you need to ( ie must) use the proprietary nvidia driver
instead of the nouveau driver.
Or some other video driver that doesn't support kernel mode switching.
DON'T reply otherwise, I don't want to hear a debate on the free
versions versus proprietary or anything else.
If you are using the proprietary nvidia driver or some other non kms
equipped driver, how are you finding F12 ? Ie do you experience
freezing when you access some panel items ?

What is the smallest device that will run Fedora 12 ? Evolution ? Kontact ?
by linux guy
My wife is a busy professional person. The organization she works for
uses Microsoft applications for scheduling and email. The users access
their information via web browsers. She is using the Safari browser on
her iPhone to gain access to her information.
My wife needs better access to her schedule and email. Right now if she
doesn't have an Internet connection she doesn't have access. And the
web user interface was designed to be used with a desktop computer with
a large monitor, not a small handheld device like an iPhone.
There must be a better way.
I understand that some of the OS desktop apps (Evolution and Kontact)
are going to be working with Microsoft Exchange. I suspect that when
they do she will be able to access her information via them.
So what is the smallest practical device that will run F12 ?
How else could one run apps like Evolution and Contact on a small
device ? Could they be made to run on a Symbian device ? What about
Android ?
Thanks

Thanks for the help.
My packages from the update are:
deltarpm-3.5-0.4.20090913git.fc11.1
pam-devel-1.0.91-9.fc11
libsidplay-1.36.57-21.fc11
authconfig-gtk-6.0.0-2.fc11
vte-0.20.5-2.fc11
authconfig-6.0.0-2.fc11
pam-1.0.91-9.fc11
I looked over them, and none of them would affect graphics setup.
But this morning it seems my Quake 4 is working again !!!
I'm thinking it was a temporary video card issue, or other hardware
Thanks for your help & I learned another Linux command.
One day I'll have enough experience to actually contribute back.

>Even more reason to try out the updates-testing repository and give

I'm still deciding on how to contribute back.
I'm kinda hesitant to begin any task, since starting anything seems
very tough, and would require a lot of commitment.
I guess they're all excuses, but hey.
New Years Resolutions are just around the corner, and I'm finalizing
my Bash Scripts that help with my Dungeons & Dragons game...
Thanks again
