Has anybody succeeded in installing AdobeReader on F14 64-bit?
On my newly built F14 following transaction check problems stops the install

Can't install Fedora 14 on MacBook Air
by Colin Paul Adams
The initial installation menu comes up ok. I select the default option
(install or upgrade). A lot of messages flash by (about two screens
worth), and then i see something like:
running /sbin/loader
check hardware
waiting for hardware
then it clears the screen, and the DVD drive runs for several minutes
before eventually stopping. I never see anything else except the blank
screen.
Any suggestions?

Can't mount USB drive - new thread this time
by Jason E. High
Okay, here's a new thread, since I unwittingly hijacked the last one.
When I insert a USB drive in F14, it shows up in the Places listing but
a window pops up that says 'Can't mount drive. Not Authorized.'
I have some stuff that I'm trying to copy to the SD card of my Droid and
I would really like this to work.
As a side note, I've been using Linux since Redhat 5.2. I switched to
Ubuntu a few years ago for precisely this reason: the little things just
"worked." I really like Fedora and would really like to use it, but I
want an operating system that I can play with if I want to, not an
operating system that forces me to a command line every ten minutes
because something simple didn't work. </rant>

kpackagekit question
by Neal Becker
I want to install updates automatically on an unattended server. If I set
kpackagekit to automatically check daily + install updates, will this work?
I'm wondering if kpackagekit only runs if a user is actually logged into the
console (running kde, and hence kpackagekit).

nVidia on F14: Did I miss it?
by Christopher A Williams
Did I just miss the howto for installing nVidia drivers (from RPMFusion)
on F14 64-bit?
Seems to be a problem with the install and a script failing to launch
(selinux?) to load the module.
Nothing here or on the (seemingly less frequented) RPMfusion lists I can
find. Can someone point me in the right direction? Looking for the
correct incantation...
Nouveau is much improved, but I still need the nVidia drivers for a few
things I run that are otherwise not well supported.
Cheers,
Chris

F13 being ignored for qemu-kvm fix?
by KC8LDO
I've given up. I posted a message on bugzilla asking where the update is to
fix installation problems for a windows xp and 2000 vm's. No response. Sent
an email message to the people involved with the problem, a Justin M.
Forbes" <jmforbes(a)linuxtx.org. I got a message from him saying that the
updated file should show up in the F13 updates.

Still haven't seen it and I sent him another email. No reply. So I'm asking
here.
Is there some reason why why this subsystem is not being fixed specificaly
for F13? As I saw on some other posts it has apparently been fixed for other
distro's.

If the average user doesn't know about a work around they have zero hope of
getting it fixed. They only way for them is waiting for the updated packages
to show up in the updates repo's.

Relatively smooth install of Fedora 14
by Andrew Gray
Hi All
I have done a fresh install of fedora 14 x86_64 from DVD media on a Mesh
Pegasus 15 laptop Athlon 64 +3400 1GB Ram
Only problem is anaconda doesn't recognise the openchrome 1400x1050 LCD
screen and I made the mistake of using graphical install.
All went well and graphical install appeared as 1600x1200 vesa so I
couldn't see the NEXT button of the bottom of the screen!
Had to boot init 3 and create a /etc/X11/xorg.conf using "xstart" to
debug it.
All working now though a missed out the final stage of graphical install
such as registering the system
Should have chosen basic graphic install and then setup the display
later!
Got DVD playback working :-
Added rpmfusion yum repository then:-
yum install xine*
yum install gstreamer*
yum install gnome-mplayer*
yum install totem*
yum install audacious*
Had to get libdvdcss from http://rpm.pbone.net/
Thanks to all the developers !!!
Fedora 14 Looks Great !!

F13 -> f14 via preupgrade: my workaround
by Colin Brace
Hi all,
Earlier today I tried upgrading my F13 system to F14 with preupgrade, but
ran into the dreaded "Unable to read package metadata... cannot retrieve
repository metadata..." error, which I've repeatedly encountered with
preupdgrade previously.
I tried moving /var/cache/yum to a different drive with more space but that
didn't work. Finally, I moved the entire /var directory from a separate
partition to the root partition, changing fstab accordingly, rebooting, and
then finally the upgrade proceeded as it should.
Don't know what the deal is with preupgrade, but in terms of paths and
partitions etc it is hardly bulletproof.
FWIW,
Colin
