authentication problem

Virtualization

Hi I am sorry if it has been asked before, but could not come up with the search terms to look it and I have not seen discussed on the WIKIs I am totally noob to virtualization and I was planning to start learning myself. I have a dual boot system (FC12, Win2k SP4). My question is ,If I want to convert it to a virtualized system, FC12 as the host system, win2k as a guest OS, do I have to reformat my HD, reinstall FC12, and then install win2k, or can I just install yum install the virtual parts for kvm and have it start as a guest the already isntalled win2k ? power saving, monitor poweroff

hello, I am considering the best ways to save power while I am off the pc and in general. my question, is thee a difference in terms of powersaving between manually shutting down the monitor (pushing the button) and the screensaver monitor powering off. moreover, is the graphic card keep on working the same when the screensaver poweroff the monitor? thanks, YB.

Kmail 1.1.32 Issue

Hi I've got a problem with the Fedora 12 KDE 4.4.1 and KDE 4.4.2 versions of Kmail (just upgraded). There are five messages stuck in the inbox that I cannot delete. I have tried the Kmail delete button. Also done a 'cd' to .kde/share/apps/kmail/mail/inbox/cur. There is nothing in there to delete. In the inbox I can see messages with a subject of (No Subject) including the brackets. The sender is "Unknown" and the date is "Unknown". Mail download is from my ISP by Kmail. Can anyone suggest where else I can look to delete these left over stubs of previous messages ? Richard http://www.sheflug.org.uk

Dump and filesystem types

I am about to upgrade from Fedora Core 8 to Fedora Core 12. I typically do this by dumping the partitions into a file on another host and doing a completely new installation. Then use restore interactively to pull in the things I need. I've seen various postings that dump only works on ext3 file systems and not ext4. Now I happen to have ext3 on my Fedora Core 8 machine so I assume I can dump OK. Now will Fedora Core 12 default to ext4 file systems ? I assume, if I do use ext4 file systems, the restore command will still be able to read the old ext3 dump file and restore the files into the ext4 file system with no problem. Also, if I go with ext4 on Fedora Core 12 what backup command is available ? I've only ever used dump (with amanda), I actually haven't been backing up this Fedora Core 8 machine because I considered it expendable and was willing to loose any data. However, I have collected some data that I'd prefer not to lose if I don't have to lose it. But, after I get Fedora Core 12 I am going to really use it and will want to back it up aggressively. Is anyone running boinc for Seti@home. I am looking for an optimized application with Vlar kill for cuda The only one I could find are dated and Lunitics opt apps for linux 64 are not there any more. The apps run fine until the cuda gets one with major vlar and bogs system until I abort application http://calbe.dw70.de/linux64.html These are the Multibeam apps I am running with Boinc Cuda app needs vlar kill

can't create live USB stick with Fedora 12

Hello everybody, I've got the next problem, I can't create live USB stick with Fedora 12. I downloaded iso image and tried to make it the program Unetbootin, but without any result. Also I tried to do it with the command *# sudo dd if=/media/Passport/Images/Fedora-12-i686-Live of=/dev/sdc1 bs=8M* * * Below is that I have after finish. Upgrade from FC10 to FC11 Going Badly

Hi, My upgrade from FC10 to FC11 is going badly. Upgrade was going ok until an unrecoverable error occurred during CD 3 that forced an immediate reboot. I ran rescue environment, then received a message to run command 'chroot /mnt/sysimage', which I did. Then rebooted and FC11 displays these messages: Warning -- SELinux targeted policy relabel is required. Relabeling could take a very long time, depending on file system size and speed of hard drives. After 5 minutes or so, I get a blue desktop with the fedora 'f' in the middle of the screen and it just sits there. Any ideas? Please advise as to next steps, thank you! Thank you for helping me with my root password. I now have root. I used a f12 dvd as a rescue cd to do it. the upgrade one. it only gave me a 800x600 screen resolution. that didn't bother me until I used the dvd to upgrade my f11 to f12. Now it bothers me for I still have the same resolution. going into the display area of system, I cannot change the resolution. Any suggestions, please.
