acroread and links in /tmp to cups PPD's

Each time I'm starting acroread and exiting, I find new links in /tmp such as 4bc54f0710c36 -> /etc/cups/ppd/xxxxx.ppd 4bc562d356e64 -> /etc/cups/ppd/yyyyy.ppd where xxxxx and yyyyy are my two sprinters. The hex pattern behind "4bc5..." changes each time acroread runs. Anybody has a solution how to get rid of this acroread behaviour? Adding a NIC

I have a working Fedora 12 system which is working as a Domain Host on the built-in eth0 interface. I need to have a second interface for some in-house requirements. Every time I insert the add-in card the system redefines my interfaces as eth0 (which is the new card) and eth1_rename thus having the devices pointed to the wrong MAC address! I have gone through system-config-network about four times and no matter how I attempt to change the names and the MAC addresses the system stubbornly returns to the status quo. What .conf file or files do I have to manually vi to fix this? Any ideas? I did this same thing in my RHEL 4 ES box and had no problems at all. Thanks Mike

searching email with regular expressions

Do imap servers like dovecot have the capability to search on regular expressions? What about specific email clients. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_e-mail_clients seems to indicate that evolution has some type of support for regular expressions. If so, I don't see how to use it. Any ideas? What about thunderbird or other email clients. Thank you, Nataraj

vlc streaming tantalizingly close

I suspect I'm missing something obvious / simple. Streaming with vlc (music mp3 files) with:- [joe@F12onOfficeDT rips]$ vlc --sout udp://192.168.0.3:1234 * while on the other desktop the usb wireless stick flashes away seemingly happily. Run gui vlc - in open Network dialog box - enter Protocol UDP , Address 192.168.0.3 , and port 1234 Hit play and not much. No error messages; no indications of activity in status boxes; no sound. I'm afraid I'm not smart enough to know if the "problem" is vlc or some other setting(s). BTW vlc works fine with local stuff and online radio. (I'm running F12 on streaming box and F11 on receiving box) Any ideas? TIA Joe -- Joe Feely

error in update list

Hi, everyone, I am getting a strange error: Error Downloading Packages: AdobeReader_enu-9.3.2-1.i486: failure: AdbeRdr9.3.2-1_i486linux_enu.rpm from adobe-linux-i386: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try. The package doesn't seem to fit with my system. For now I ran update as follows: yum update --exclude=AdobeReader_enu and that seems to get things going again. It also showed the following for the package size AdobeReader_enu i486 9.3.2-1 adobe-linux-i386 61 M which seems quite large for adobe. Regards, Les H

Rearrange users??

I keep a loaner laptop for houseguests, and keep their accounts set to /sbin/nologin except when they're here. The last pair won't be back for another year, and the next pair will arrive this month. I'd like to put their usernames above the last pair's instead of below on the login screen. My system updated the firefox back to 64 bit I can remove it but I cant fint the firefox 32 bit package How do I 1. get the right 32 bit package 2. browse repo listings through yum It's the flashplayer again so I need 32 bit firefox on a 64 bit fedora 12
