There has to be some sort of hard drive state that sets the drive into
read-only
mode. When I try to mount the drive rw, the error message is that the
drive is
read only.
Since I try to mount it as root, and /dev/sdd1 has mode 600, permission
is not
the issue. So, it has to be a disk internal hardware state.

Te curious case of DST
by Geoffrey Leach
Suddenly my two (count 'em) computers networked together and connected
to the internet have been booting up in DST - i.e. one hour later than
the actual time. A pointer to where this setting is stored or can be
accessed would be greatly appreciated.
They are set up to get time via NTP, FWIW.
Of course, it mightn't be DST, but I can think of no better
explanation.
Thanks.

Pastebin for pictures
by Zoltan Hoppar
Hi
I'm looking for an open source web app like the simply pastebin, just for
pictures? Is there open source one in the wild?
I thought on this, because most of the designers are splitting to multiple
spaces and non free services - wouldn't be great to set an temporary space
for images, for quick info exchange?
Since I have begun search for it, I have found only one - http://inky.ws/
But there no such that we can integrate for us? :S
Thanks,
Zoltan

vncserver giving Oh No. Something has gone wrong?
by Michael D. Setzer II
Have a machine that I setup Fedora 17 on some time ago, and
vnc works just fine, but have recently done a clean install on
another machine, and it connects fine, prompts for password, but
then displays the Oh No. Something has gone wrong. The
machines have the same video cards, and have the same
xstartup. Don't see anything in the log files that stand out.
Any ideals on where to look for were to seach for the problem.
The machine that works was originally setup right after 17 came
out, and it installed vnc with no problem. The new one did a clean
install, then was fully updated, and then went to install vnc and it
gives the Oh No message?

Brightness Controls Do Not Work after Suspend-to-Disk
by Chris Tyler
I have a Toshiba Z-830 (the Portege i7 version) which works fabulously
under F17: 15 second boot, <2 second resume from RAM, all features
working (except the fingerprint reader, for which I wait hopefully for a
future driver).
I recently configured hybrid suspend - suspend-to-RAM for 15 minutes
followed by suspend-to-disk. Oddly, when resuming from suspend-to-disk,
the brightness controls do not work, and the screen is at WHERE ARE MY
SUNGLASSES brightness. Everything else seems to work fine after the
resume.
Any thoughts/suggestions on possible causes or (better yet) possible
fixes?
Thanks in advance --

f17 gnome-shell-extension-weather
by Robert Moskowitz
The weather setup is not letting me change the city. It defaulted to
Cambridge, GB and when I put in any city from its selection list, the OK
button remains greyed out and only cancel is avaiable.
Any tips on getting this to work?
