Fedora 16 Stuck on Welcome Screen

Hey all,
I have a fresh Fedora 16 64 bit KDE install from DVD iso on USB. It boots
up to the "Welcome" screen but when I click "Forward" to proceed to the
license information screen the button darkens like it's been pressed and
just stays like that. The cursor hangs briefly and returns to normal but
the button stays "pressed" and nothing happens having waited long enough to
try and find a solution on Google (i.e. several minutes). If it matters and
I suspect it does I have an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580. FWIW I had the same
problem on GNOME a while ago but gave up.
Like I said this is a fresh installation with no personal data whatsoever
so I have no problem trashing it aside from the time it takes to reinstall.
I am dual booting with Windows 7 and preferably that install doesn't get
involved in the scuffle.
Does anyone have any ideas?

To me this is a good thing - the new API's are far better designed for
things like containing garbage code that's probably full of holes.

F16 USB pass-through to VirtualBox

I have no previous experience with VirtualBox but have been trying to
use it for the last couple of weeks. Now I'm having what ought to be
a simple problem, but I'm stuck. I can't get a VBox guest to see a
connected USB flash drive.
Host: Fedora 16
Guest: Fedora 8
VirtualBox: 4.1.8 with (the only) extension
Host uses a USB keyboard and mouse which are attached normally
during boot and are visible and useable by both the host and the
guest. However, I'm usually running the guest headless. A VBox blank
USB "filter" is installed. When connecting a flash drive, the host
immediately reports detection but the guest does not see anything. These
are the only USB devices anticipated. Host /var/log/messages extract:

There are no new lines added to /var/log/messages on the guest. (Yes,
the flash drive referenced here is ancient. It is just a test device.)

The VBox manual seems to say that USB pass-through will not work if
the USB device is actively used by the host. I presume this attachment
constitutes active use, especially since it is reported as busy, but
the drive is not mounted. (I have explicitly disabled auto-mount.) What
do I need to do to let this device (and any other USB flash drives
inserted) be seen by the guest?
Searching online finds only references to using auto-mount on the
host, then sharing the mount directory with the guest. That is not
an ideal solution in this case as software on the guest expects to
mount the drive and would need to be extensively modified. Besides,
I hate auto-mount.
The issue is the flash drive. What can't the guest see it?

Policykit in fedora 16?

Problem with atl1c driver for AR8152 network card.

G'day all,
I have seen a couple of unresolved references to this driver in
bugzilla and some fixes for older Fedora and kernel versions that don't
reliably work in F16.
Removing and reloading the atl1c module repeatedly will get it working
less than 5% of the time yet when working may stay up for as little as a few
seconds but sometimes for an hour or so. The atl1e driver does not create an
em1 device at all.
Does anyone know of a fix for this?

re-mapping an older disk ??

Hi;
I have some hard disk problems, every thing I try just keeps digging a
deeper hole.
SMART Data
Disk HAS MANY BAD SECTORS
Backup all data and replace the disk
Current Pending Sector Count
Number of sectors waiting to be remapped
Problem(s) could also be mixed with my trying to set up and use LVM for
the first time. !! If anyone recognizes a LVM problem please let me
know? Could also be from physicaly switching two 500g harddrives
around?
Diagnosis suggestions would be welcome.
googled for suggested fix because the disk is not that old. Got the dd
suggestion below. Looks destructive.
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda bs=1M conv=noerror
