unusable encrypted volume on a live USB
by Joel Rees
This was my second try at a live USB, and I decided to experiment with
an encrypted volume for /home. Used a bunch of leetsp3@k substitutions
without thinking about the keyboard, so I can't mount the partition on
boot. So, I'm wondering how hard it would be to reclaim the part of
the flash disk being used for the encrypted volume, or whether it
might just be easier to wipe the live image and start over.
Can someone point me to the stuff the live images use to put encrypted
volumes on these FAT disks? I tend to get lost in all the interesting
side paths when I dig into the wiki without guidance.

Hi all,

I'm new to Evolution and am having trouble with some of its features,
such as how does one Bcc a recipient?
Hope this isn't an FAQ. I spent a fair amount of time on this without
success.

by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
When I try to share a printer and run add a new printer, I get:
FirewallD is not running. Network printer detection needs services mdns,
ipp, ipp-client and samba-client enabled on firewall.
I do not see any service like FirewallD.
On the client I run:
Samba client
mDNS
IPP (client)
samba clienr
on the server:
IPP server
samba
samba server
Am I missing something?
Thank.

There was a problem with that last week that was cleared up.
Something with libvpx. Try clearing your metadata.
yum clean metadata
Then try to update again. I have my system fully updated for those
packages
no problem.
[root@linux0 ~]# rpm -qa | grep gstreamer-plugins-bad

kde slow to start after a crash
by Walter Cazzola
Dear Linuxers,
I've a quite frustrating problem, yesterday trying to send a file via
Skype this crashed and my linux-box became unresponsive. After
rebooting KDE started really very slowly (it is taking more or less 20
minutes to be fully loaded and responsive) and this happens at every
reboot (and since this is a laptop it is quite frequent). And also once
started many applications (e.g., korganizer, klipper) are still
unresponsive and theirs menu take long time to appear.
I got the same problem with the same causes one year ago and at that
time I have solved reinstalling all the whole system but at the time was
a quite new installation and it was inexpensive to do that but now I'd
prefer to avoid. I have already tried to remove the cache and lock files
but it didn't work.
Any idea about how to solve the issue? If you address me I can provide
log files as well.
My system is FC13 up to date with KDE 4.5.3, nvidia card and kernel
2.6.34.7-63. I can provide any piece of log if you address me to what to
look for. I know it is quite old but it works for my needs and it took
so long to be fine tuned that I don't like the idea to start again.
Thanks for the help
Walter

Dongle dosen't talk
by Geoffrey Leach
A small problem, but nevertheless.
I have a new Netgear N150, which is a wirelless USB adapter. After the
system (Fedora 16) returns from hibernation the N150 connects to the
wireless router (also Netgear) as evidenced by the fact that ifconfig
shows the correct (static) IP address. However it does not talk to
another system (also Fedora 16) connected to the router (hardwired). If
I unplug and replug the N150, it connects correctly and all is well.
FWIW, the wireless dongle previously in use for this purpose did not
show this behavior.
Any ideas?

Bluetooth Failure Causing Sound Problem?
by Richard Heck
In an earlier message, I mentioned that some update or other seems to
have broken my ability to load pulseaudio, though it will eventually
load. I get this error:
/home/rgheck/ > pulseaudio
E: module-udev-detect.c: inotify_init1() failed: Too many open files
E: module.c: Failed to load module "module-udev-detect" (argument: ""):
initialization failed.
E: main.c: Module load failed.
E: main.c: Failed to initialize daemon.
and similarly in the logs. Eventually, the pulseaudio driver does load,
however, and when it does, it seems that What I've noticed now,
however, is that I'm seeing messages like this:
Feb 24 17:34:15 rghquad dbus[1046]: [system] Activating via systemd:
service name='org.bluez' unit='dbus-org.bluez.service'
Feb 24 17:34:15 rghquad dbus-daemon[1046]: dbus[1046]: [system]

'systemctl status dbus-org.bluez.service' for details.

Activation via systemd failed for unit 'dbus-org.bluez.service': Unit

Feb 24 17:34:15 rghquad pulseaudio[3459]: bluetooth-util.c: Error from
ListAdapters reply: org.freedesktop.systemd1.LoadFailed
This last is actually a sign of a successful load of the pulseaudio
driver. So it looks as if, perhaps, the real problem has to do with
bluetooth.
I'm going to try removing the bluetooth module from pulseaudio and see
if that helps....

Start script
by Fedora Linux
Hello friends
I have a doubt about how to make a start script to launche services and do
some stuff every time that fedora boots...
I created a script
/etc/rc.d/init.d/MyStartupScript rwxr-xr-x
rm -fr /tmp/*
rm -fr /tmp/.*
mysqld_safe --user=mysql &
but it simply does nothing... I have Fedora 16... how and where should I
put my script?
Thanks

Fedora 16 kernel panic
by Brian Johnson
Hello Fedora Users list!
I sent this recently to our local LUG list, but no one was able to help. I
looked to see if this has been talked about and as far as I know, it hasn't
(outside of something similar with Fedora 15, but it seemed the solution
there was incomplete).
I have 3 kernels installed on my Fedora 16 laptop
-- kernel-3.2.2-1.fc16.i686, kernel-3.2.5-3.fc16.i686
and kernel-3.2.6-3.fc16.i686. When I try to boot 3.2.5-3 or 3.2.6-3, I get
a kernel panic message with the message "initramfs unpacking failed
uncompression error" followed by "not syncing, no init found". Both of
these were installed via normal yum updating; nothing out of the ordinary
for them.
In the beginning, booting into the oldest one, 3.2.2-1 has no problems,
fortunately. Haven't seen anything helpful mentioned on the Interwebz about
such an error, was wondering if anyone had seen something similar. Just to
be sure, I removed the 2 newer kernels and then did a "yum install kernel"
to see if something was corrupted the first time, but I'm still getting the
same results.
The last time I reboot, *all* of the kernels would give the error message.
I was able to first boot into single-user and then, when exiting, it boot
properly. I just installed the latest kernel update and (3.2.7.x) and
getting the same thing.
Thanks!
Brian
