dnf gets stuck on poor connections
by Suvayu Ali
Hi,
Lately I have been on unreliable connections. I noticed that after I
have my laptop running for a few days, dnf stops working. Any dnf
command hangs indefinitely. I can get back to the shell again by
killing the process with SIGKILL. It seems to me this happens when the
dnf-makecache service gets stuck. I have tried restarting it, but it
does not help. Restarting the dnf-makecache timer does not help either.
Of course all this goes away after a reboot. But then that's not really
a solution.
Any ideas anyone?
TIA,

Script/list of everything installed on old F20 box (yum) to new F23 box (dnf)
by Ted Roche
Hi, folks:
My old development workstation,
$ uname -a
Linux stupidname.mydomain.com 3.19.8-100.fc20.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue May 12
17:08:50 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
is finally getting replaced with a new machine,
$uname -a
Linux newstupidname.mydomain.com 4.2.5-300.fc23.x86_x64 #1 SMP Tue Oct
27 4:29:56 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Is there an easy way to query the database of installed stuff on the
old machine and turn it into a script to run on the new one? I know
there's the old config file, font, and script I installed by hand, but
this would get me a long way toward a working workstation.
I'm sure I can hack something together with
yum list installed
and flub my way through cut, sed, slice but if someone already has a
more elegant solution, I'd appreciate suggestions.

What am I missing?
This installation began as Fedora-23 beta and seems to work perfectly
otherwise. As I said I first noticed this yesterday.

WIFI dongle stopped working
by Gary Stainburn
I have a HP Envy running F21. THe built in WIFI would not work so I bought a
dongle from The Pi Hut
http://thepihut.com/collections/raspberry-pi-wifi/products/usb-wifi-adapt...
This worked straight out of the box.
However, recently I realised it wasn't working, but don't know when it
stopped. I can't think of anything that could have happened other than
routine yum updates.
The following is what appears in /var/log/messages if I boot up and then plug
in the dongle.
I'm very much a non-techy when it comes to linux internals, but it looks to me
like Linux no longer recognises the device. Can anyone give a clue why, or
what I need to do to fix it?

Gnome/Wayland
by Joachim Backes
Hi all F23 users,
seeing some little problem with Gnome/Wayland desktop in F23:
After logging in, during the next (few) secconds, the screen fades out
and becomes dark. I have to click immediately on the screen, or the
screen locks up (within few seconds).
Anybody sees this too?

best way to build bootable f23 USB drives from f23?
by Robert P. J. Day
for an upcoming class, i want to create bootable 64-bit fedora 23
systems on (probably) 16G USB drives. given that i want to do this
from a running fedora 23 system, and it can be a totally destructive
creation, what's the best way?
as i see it, i would probably do a single, initial install onto one
USB drive, then "dd" that image to all the rest. the USB drives need
to be writable, and (obviously) bootable from any system.
so far, i've found this wiki page:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_create_and_use_Live_USB
and am looking at the liveusb-creator package. am i on the right
track?

Flickering Desktop with tigervnc-1.5.0 on Fedora-23
by Ziegenlippe
Hello,
When using tigervnc 1.5.0 server on fedora 23 workstation with tigervnc
1.5.0 viewer on windows 7 (both 64bit) I can see the desktop. But it
quickly flickers between the following view fragments in undeterministic
order:
* full login screen
* Background image
* black screen
* just buttons,
* just password text input
I can login somehow. But after login it happens the same. Only
additionally the desktop is among the flickering fragments. It seems to
work in general. I can open programs but it still flickers heavily.
It makes no difference whether I use it in window or full screen mode (2
monitors in my case).
I have tried the fedora 23 installation on a bare metal server and on a
vmware virtual machine with exactly the same problem.
Tigervnc 1.4.3 (server & viewer) fedora 22 and fedora 22 kde spin worked
very well in my setup. So it seems not to by client side issue.

gnuplot help
by Antonio Olivares
Dear Fedora users,
Any gnuplot experts out there. I have a situation which I can plot using plotshare
http://plotshare.com/index.ws/plot/338384601
but when I run it in regular gnuplot, I get mistakes. I would like to improve the script in order to better show the graphics. I copied the style from
http://plotshare.com/index.ws/plot/672940882
The only one that works is the following one:
http://plotshare.com/index.ws/plot/858779550
I wanted to change it, put the dates and the opponent and make it look like a bar graph. I tried modifing the code and add the style used by Marco F. a fellow Fedora/open source user:
http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/linux-and-open-source/how-to-handle-time...
But I cannot get it to work. I am using Fedora 22 in case it is important.
BTW(the awk scripts that some list members helped me with have me setup and ready for the start of the soccer season) Now I just want to show our players to get ready and show them the goal differential and see visually what we need to work on.
Best Regards,
Antonio

Thanks for a GREAT update to 23!
by Wade Hampton
Thanks for a GREAT update to 23!
For the first time in a long while, I had very few issues upgrading
from earlier Fedora releases to the latest version. Over the weekend,
I updated two computers from F21 to F23 with only a few minor issues.
The F21 laptop was installed from F21 media a few months ago
and the update was smooth except for changing the way the mouse
operated -- I had to click on the window bar to raise windows (now fixed).
The F21 desktop has been repeatedly updated since about F13. Most
previous updates were painful. This time, I had to remove a few programs
including google-earth, then the update worked seamlessly.
(I have yet to test Xilinx, Arduino, Maple, and STM tools.)
Thanks!
