Prompt shows wrong version -
by Bob Goodwin
.
This is an updated Fedora 29 beta however the prompt indicates 28:
[bobg@Box83-F28-workstation ~]$ uname -a
Linux Box83-F28-workstation 4.18.17-300.fc29.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon Nov 5
17:56:16 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
What do I need to do, simply change the prompt?

How to Fix ACPI Error : Namespace lookup failure
by finn
Greetings,
Whenever I boot up my PC I'm getting this error
`sudo dmesg`
[ 12.432182] ACPI Error: [\_SB_.PCI0.LPCB.H_EC.ECAV] Namespace lookup failure, AE_NOT_FOUND (20160831/psargs-359)
[ 12.432241] ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\_SB.PCI0.B0D4._TMP] (Node ffff9de85a1f4410), AE_NOT_FOUND (20160831/psparse-543)
It seems like something is missing (for ex. library, package etc).
I'm ignoring this error from 7-8 months because it has no bad effect on PC my but I'm more interested in why am I getting this error? And if possible, How can I fix this issue?

Where are the ACLs on /dev/usb devices specified?
by Sam Varshavchik
I'm trying to get NUT running. It fails to start because it setuids itself
to the nut user and then attempts to open the USB device node, /dev/bus/usb/
006/001
This fails with EACCESS because:
[root@monster tmp]# ls -al /dev/bus/usb/006/001
crw-rw-r--+ 1 root root 189, 640 Nov 11 13:49 /dev/bus/usb/006/001
[root@monster tmp]# getfacl /dev/bus/usb/006/001
getfacl: Removing leading '/' from absolute path names
# file: dev/bus/usb/006/001
# owner: root
# group: root
user::rw-
group::rw-
group:lirc:rw-
mask::rw-
other::r--
So the ACLs give access to USB devices to the 'lirc' user, and 'nut' can't
open this.
Where is this coming from? I don't use lirc any more, I did many years ago,
so this must be the leftover from that era. I don't remember how I set it up
back then.
Grepping through /etc for anything referencing the 'lirc' user, that might
be specifying the ACLs for USB devices, doesn't find anything.

FSTRIM Service Failing at Boot Time
by Stephen Morris
Hi,
I've just noticed that at boot time that the FSTRIM service is
registering a failure. The failure seems to be because it is trying to
trim two windows mount points which are on the SSD, that are mounted as
RO because I can't mount them as RW due to Microsoft functionality.
Is there any way to configure the FSTRIM service to not attempt to
trim specific partitions?
regards,
Steve

Authenticate not working?
by Tom Horsley
Brand new fedora 29 install. Brand new user created.
Logged in to gnome3 session as that user.
Searched for "users" in the app finder.
Clicked on the users app it found.
It pops up a dialog asking me to authenticate.
I type in root password, it says it is no good.
I try it 3 or 4 more times, still no good.
I get in terminal and do an "su -l"
It asks for password and is perfectly happy with
the one I type (the same one I gave the
authenticate popup before).
I'm able to run system-config-users and make
some changes with no problems.
Anyone else have this problem?

Might this be the same thing I posted about way back on May 19, 2017
("ACPI errors (was: f24 boot fails; need help).")? Back then, this was
closed as a non-issue. Stan referenced bug 1413342. He also referenced
"https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/slackware-14/acpi-error-[dssp]-n...".
I still get the same entries in my boot logs, but things do seem to work.

Re: I need a data and time clock for my desktop

The digital ("-d") option uses the 24-hour format by default.
Regardless, the option for 24-hour format is "-twentyfour", not "-24".
The "strftime" option wants "-n" for a newline. But that seems to not
work. Like Samuel, I get an empty rectangle for the "%n". I tried
several "xclock" commands. Each time, I get the warning message
"Warning: Missing charsets in String to FontSet conversion" Is that a
useful clue to why we can't get time and date on separate lines?

Cleaning up /etc/yum.repos.d
by Patrick O'Callaghan
My repos directory has accumulated a lot of cruft over the years,
things like unused COPR repos etc., so I wanted to clean it out. I have
a couple of questions:
Do I need both fedora-* and fedora-*-modular repos?
How do I list installed packages from a specific repo?
