I am running Fedora 24 on a T440s. I have a docking station that when
connected works as expected. However, if I disconnect from the docking station and try to
connect to an external monitor sometimes the monitor doesn't recognize the computer
and sometimes my computer doesn't recognize the monitor. This has been going on for a
few months now and I am running updates daily.

Hi!
Not sure if this is the same problem I am facing. I filed a bug here
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1378686 . The only way I get
this working "as it was before" is by running with a kernel older than
4.6.7. In F24 only kernel 4.5.5 seems available now and that works well
with me when I need to connect to my external TV. Maybe you could try
that and add info to the bug if this works for you.
Thank you.
Fred
