Yes, led! not laser of course! I had some problems like this, until I
put my mouse on a sheet of paper... I think that if the mouse is on a
too much reflective place, then it has a weird behaviour.
It is more a matter of the contrast the reflexion. It has to sense
changes in reflected light to determine motion. I have a very
reflective mouse pad left from an early optical mouse that has nice
grid lines on it - it works great! (The original mouse would only
work on the special pad.)
