If you are to the point of installing from scratch but are having video
issues you can boot the Live image and then go to "Trouble Shooting" and
try booting in basic graphics mode.
I installed from scratch, and I did have video troubles with 2 monitors.
I unplugged one monitor and I was able to install without any issues.
After install, I plugged the 2nd monitor back in and I have the same
video troubles with Gnome and either Wayland or Xorg, whether in
graphical mode (gdm) or not (startx). That's why I was looking for the X
logs. Luckily, Mate works flawlessly, as always. For now.
