If you can figure out the setting you need to change, you can add it to 
the dconf database in /etc/dconf.
To use dconf-editor, these are the steps that worked for me on Wayland:
chmod o+w /tmp/.X11-unix/X0
sudo -i
sudo -s -u gdm dconf-editor
chmod o-w /tmp/.X11-unix/X0
