hello everyone,
I have done this before, but now I have one big doubt when completing installation of F36
alongside Win 10.
I shrunk one of the Win partitions to create good space for my Fedora installation.
I have booted the Live installer and entered the Installation destination section
(screenshot here:

select Automatic, will Fedora be automatically installed in the biggest unallocated space?
and this space partitioned as per Fedora default?
I have seen instructions where people select Custom, and manually create partitions, I am
way too nervous about partitioning the disk myself. I don't want to mess up the Win
installation that has taken me time to setup. I don't remember having to this before.

I have done this many times. Being of the belts and suspenders mondest,
especially where Windows is involved,
I always use the Fedora Live OS to double check that the space is
recognized as unused by linux before running
the installer.

I almost always stick with the defaults, in part because I want my system
configured in a way similar to what my colleagues have.
PS -- many systems with Windows installed the vendor provide a recovery
partition. In practice, I have only used the recovery partition when
transferring a system to someone else. Microsoft provides updated
installers which avoid the long many reboots process needed to use the
recovery partition version .

If there is anything of value on the disk, don't update without a backup.

With automatic partitioning, you can also select the I would like to make

I did read that guide. The guide somehow implies that the Fedora will be installed
alongside other systems instead of suing the whole disk for itself.
I prefer to use Windows tools to make a Windows partition smaller --

This is what I did, from the beginning, I shrunk the Windows partition using Windows
partition manager.

I suggest you try it. The last time I did this was many years ago, but
IIRC Fedora did not blindly remove an existing Windows partition (or
other Linux for that matter). In any case it will tell you what it's
about to do and ask you to confirm.

about to do and ask you to confirm.
It may depend on what type of install you want
to do. I recently
installed F36 on a new system I had built, where I was putting Windows
Drive C, Ubuntu and Fedora boot partitions on an SSD, had 2 3TB disks
for windows data, a 1TB disk for the rest of Ubuntu and a 3TB disk for
the rest of Fedora. Windows and Ubuntu were installed first. I just
pointed the installer at the partition I wanted Fedora installed in,
which was after configuring the partition as GPT as a Dos partition can
only address 2TB is storage, and told the installer I wanted the
partition on the 3TB drive as "/", and the partition on the ssd as
"/boot". Having done this the installer refused to do the install
because being a UEFI install the installer wanted a mounted UEFI system
partition, so I had to reduce the size of the "/boot" partition to
create a 100MB partition as an EFIOS (I think) partition specified to be
mounted as the installer wanted, and then it proceeded to completion. As
Patrick said, I would expect the automatic installation to set up the
necessary partitions for you, but I don't know for sure as I have never
done an automatic install, I have always specified the layout I wanted
explicitly.

All my installs on mixed OS systems have used the existing EFI partition
with Windows or macOS. One thing to check is Windows fast-boot, which
is really hibernation and must be disabled or the system will recover
directly into Windows.
As Patrick said, I would expect the automatic installation to set up
the
necessary partitions for you, but I don't know for sure as I have never
done an automatic install, I have always specified the layout I wanted
explicitly.
When you install onto a bare disk it does create the partitions. I like to
have a bootable USB drive (currently I'm using a USB-C adapter with
an NVME SSD). for rescue/troubleshooting.

do a good job without the need for manual intervention unless your use case

Many the time I'd opened the box, written down the brand names and
sizes of the installed harddrives. It was easier when they were
different, and a right pain when a box had two or more identical
models.
I haven't multibooted for eons (it has its own worlds of pain), but I
still like the idea of one drive for data, another for the system. It
makes OS updates so much easier to manage.

I usually bought disks in bulk -- cheaper that way and I only had to
have a dos system with SCSI that could boot one vendor's diagnostics.
I retrospect I should have used the brand and serial no. to make my
own almost UUID. I did put a text file in the root of each drive with
notes on the partition structure, etc.
I haven't multibooted for eons (it has its own worlds of pain), but I
still like the idea of one drive for data, another for the system.
It
makes OS updates so much easier to manage.
A separate data disk is a good strategy for a single OS. For multiboot
I need data to be available to all the OS's, so use a network drive
shared via samba.
The majority of my colleagues work for governments or universities
and are required to run windows, but use linux for large scale
processing. People who have the option mostly use macOS. ESA
and NASA have "mission critical" applications written in Java that
run on Windows, linux, and macOS. I need all 3 OS's in order to
investigate issues, and now need to add an Apple silicon version
of macOS.

Hi Patrick. I did try it and it worked as I expected. Fedora was installed alongside
Windows and dual boot is working flawlessly. However, the Fedora installer did not show me
how it was going to partition the disk under the automatic partitioning scheme. All I can
do is select the disk and Automatic, there is no way for me to see how the disk is going
to be partitioned before installing. Once I click on Begin Installation, it just starts,

That's right. If you want to see what it will do, then you can pick the
custom option and then click on the "Click here to create them
automatically" link.

Last time I installed, or maybe the time before, I'm sure there was a
"review" option for the drive partitioning before continuing. You
could see the layout it'd chose, you could change it. In the
partitioning section, you could erase and create partitions manually,
you could hit the auto button and see what it did. And if you didn't
like it, modify it.
