Hey,
Since I've been tasked with completing this page[1], I need some info on Pune and Bangalore (since I'm not in any of these locations currently)
Can the people from Pune and Bangalore($location) please answer these questions?
1 - What are the facilities available at $location with for hosting a FUDCon? (location Requirements: Plenty of space, good wireless internet, projectors etc,)
2 - What are the facilities available for lodging? ( a few names would be awesome, rates if mentioned would be even more awesome)
3 - Public transport facilities, ie, how to travel to and from the venue?
4 - facilities for catering?
5 - what days/periods would the venue, lodgings be available?
6 - How to get to $location? approx prices? (air ports, trains, buses)
7 - anything extra youd like to mention?

There are many places that be rented out for these events, we can even speak to a few colleges that might be interested in hosting such a thing.
2 - What are the facilities available for lodging? ( a few names would be awesome, rates if mentioned would be even more awesome)
There are quite a few places around for lodging. It all depends on the venue. For example where FOSS.in was hosted, there were lodges close by to the venue.
3 - Public transport facilities, ie, how to travel to and from the venue?
Bus is available to all the major places in the city.
4 - facilities for catering?
I can get this done if needed. Even if you want specific kind of food on a specific day that can be done. Know quite a few places that does catering.
5 - what days/periods would the venue, lodgings be available?
Almost all round the year.
6 - How to get to $location? approx prices? (air ports, trains, buses)
Flight to Bangalore should not exceed 4000INR per flight from most of the well know cities. Trains and buses are cheaper and better options.
7 - anything extra youd like to mention?
For people who have not been to Bangalore sightseeing could be arranged for easily. Lot of places that have to be visited. To name a few Iskcon temple, the Shiv Mandir (Shrink and kital know about it), Lalbagh (spread over 40 acres, takes a day to be able to see most of it). Also bangalore has optimal weather around the sept/oct period.

I can talk to RVCE authorities and see if they are interested to host the event.
Also, Pune would be a better option in my opinion. As discussed in the meeting, this will allow lot of Fedora developers from Redhat to participate easily thus reducing the budget.
Let me a pain in your arse and spoil the fun.
Why do we need a FUDCon in India? What difference will it make to Fedora?
Happy hacking, Debarshi

If it was your idea of fun mate, it was a real rotten one.
If people are not interested in the FUDCon for whatever reason, now would be a good time to speak up since some of us are taking up responsibilities, tasks and working for it, and we don't appreciate being sent on useless errands.

Debarshi's query is a simple one. Do not blame him for asking.
Either you answer or let someone else answer, why ridicule ?

This for the list - If there is no answer to such a simple query, how come engaging people is justified, for an event which does not have a clear agenda ?

It does.
It's ironic how the idea was added to the agenda in the first place (only topic on agenda, btw) , and is being questioned now after *two* meetings on it. What were the two meetings held for? Did we simply waste a Fedora-India specific townhall meeting?

I did not ridicule. There is no issue at all, it's still a discussion and will stay that way. Please don't give it such a negative outlook :)
As for the answer to the question:
http://press.redhat.com/2009/07/15/fudcon-berlin-provides-venue-for-security...
I think the FUDCon at India will benefit Fedora the same way. We *are* the *third largest* contributor to Fedora. (read /topic at #fedora-india)
In the spirit of a good, constructive discussion, I request you to put forward your views on why a FUDCon in India is a bad idea.

No one has engaged anyone. It is justified to request people to use the meetings correctly and present their views, *before* a decision is passed and some work has begun. It's everyone's responsibility when you're working with such a large community.
You'd have a bad taste in the mouth too if you had begun working on something related to the FUDCon.
You didn't answer the question either :)

How? Please try to come up with specific points. Try to come to the level where you actually place the *s and ;s in your source code.
We *are* the *third largest* contributor to Fedora. (read /topic at #fedora-india)
That means nothing. Nothing whatsoever. First, second, third, whatever. Those are just buzzwords. They sound nice on a newspaper, magazine or tabloid.
At the end of the day, what counts is your name in the changelog and the diff associated with it. Having or not having your name in a magazine might make you happy or sad, but has nothing to do with the respect that you earn within the community.
In the spirit of a good, constructive discussion, I request you to put forward your views on why a FUDCon in India is a bad idea.
It is not about "why a FUDCon in India is a bad idea". I can be a cynic and come up with a dozen reasons. That is not the point.
The point is to think how it is going to make an impact. I tried to provide some indications on this on IRC yesterday, but unfortunately it got drowned in the ensuing disucussion.
Cheers, Debarshi

Well, if you search through your inbox you will find out something about: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FUDCon:India_2010
If it was your idea of fun mate, it was a real rotten one.
I have a rotten sense of humour.
In any case, since there was going to be a townhall meeting I thought it would be a good opportunity to discuss it. The presence of the Wiki page can be assumed to be an indication that there is some interest in having a FUDCon in India.
If people are not interested in the FUDCon for whatever reason, now would be a good time to speak up since some of us are taking up responsibilities, tasks and working for it, and we don't appreciate being sent on useless errands.
Here in lies the whole story.
No one is sending you on useless errands. You are doing it because you like or want to do it. There is no lord/lady/God/Godess asking you to work. While this may sound all very good and nice, there is a catch here. You can not rely on $DEITY to take up the task of giving direction and purpose to the event. It is you who has to work on that as well. Your responsibilities include decision-making and execution. While lifting up chairs and hanging posters and arranging the microphones is back breaking work, it is only the execution part of it. The decision making is the other part and it is not easy either. Don't avoid it.
Remember when you talk about a FUDCon in India, you are the face of India in front of the whole world. You represent India. Don't take it lightly.
Cheers, Debarshi
PS: I should have probably used 'we' instead of 'you', but that does not change the point. I am not blaming you, nor am I pissed off with you. :-)

Well then, when the decision making was being done, at two meetings, all these issues should've been clarified. Decisions cannot be made at anyone's convenience. We had two meetings and took the decision to go ahead with the FUDCon, and work/responsibilities taken.
Remember when you talk about a FUDCon in India, you are the face of India in front of the whole world. You represent India. Don't take it lightly.
I don't. The point is, I'm not the face alone. All of us are.

I'm starting a new thread on "FUDCon - India "OUR goals"". This thread has gone way of it's intended function and needs to be killed.

I like pain in the A** stuff. It allows me not to sit down and relax, instead keep working with constant attention to the pain ;-)
The points Rishi is trying to make (my perception) are the following. Answer them and you might have answered Rishi.
1. Whats the objective of FUDCon India?
2. See the wiki pages of FUDCon Berlin or FUDCon Boston. See their schedule and line-up. See the hackfests. Now IMO *that* really will make a difference to Fedora. Some itch scratching, decision making. In short spinning out code. Its highly important to figure out what one expects at the end of FUDCon India. I dont see that anywhere in your discussions. And yes, I read the IRC logs of the TownHall meeting as well.
3. Just read the first para of http://magazine.redhat.com/2009/02/13/video-fudcon-11/ (*collaborate* on *features*, get ideas and work on itches).
4. Is it going to be another "Welcome to Fedora" thing *only* or "Welcome to Fedora" + some solid feature collaboration + brainstorming? If at the end you only have former, how different is it from a Fedora Activity Day (FAD)?
Think on such lines. Set your objectives in place first. It will help you in the planning process as well. All the best and with respect to the venue - Pune or Kolkata should be the place. No idea why Bangalore even got pictured here? Any reasons?
Regards, Aanjhan PS: Can anyone tell me the difference of the buzzwords FAD and FUDCon? That might help the FUDCon India organisers know it is not FAD that they are planning but FUDCon. The only page I see is a stub http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FUDCon_Planning_FAD
