Only for this release, right? Then we're still hoping to get an official spin?
I could probably find a way to host static images of this release.

List of packages
by Brendan Jones
Hey all,
I announced the nightly spin on LAU today and one question was "What
packages are included with this release?"
Apart from pointing them to the kickstart and the devel/wishlist pages,
I had no answer.
As the spin is not part of the spin's page, perhaps we need to create a
dedicated page listing all of the packages etc. I think this should be
separate from the page that is used to source the "official" spin page
[1]. Better to treat this as a remix from here (but still link to the
nightlies). Anyone have some space somewhere where we can host this?

Fedora Jam
by Brendan Jones
Hi all,
a quick announcement to alert all to the fact that the Fedora Jam audio
spin is now available. It is not documented and/or linked on the
"Official" spins page due to the same reasons that delayed the core
Fedora release as a whole [1].
However, you can grab a copy of the latest iso here [2]. IWe have tried
to deliver the latest versions of all projects out there, but of course
there are a number of release bumps over the Xmas period that we might
have missed. Feel free to raise a bugzilla and we'll get on top of it.
In the coming months my focus is still on promoting as many new LV2
projects as I can. I expect triceratops and minator to land soon. If
anyone knows of any other projects that we may have missed please let us
know. If developers want to expand their testing audience, please let
me know and I'll make these projects available in rawhide.
The Fedora Musicians guide has also been published, always a work in
progress so we warmly welcome any comments/additions. [3]
kind regards
Brendan

For future reference, here's how it works... and it's the same for any Guide
(like the User Guide).
An author can publish their document in any available languages at any time
for any release. Ideally, all of the Guides are updated before each release,
then published on the same day as the release itself. In reality, the Guides
are slowly updated, and *if* a Guide is published for a particular release, it
will usually show up anywhere from a month before to a month after the release
date.
We try to avoid updating the published books between releases. In my mind, the
real reason is that it would make translation much more difficult: if we always
keep the most recent English version in the translation system, it's changing
too fast to complete a single, consistent translation. On the other hand, we
could publish updated versions of the English only... but then that drifts
away from any published non-English version, and could lead to confusion for
readers who may be using both languages.
Furthermore, it leads to a situation that *looks like* the Fedora Project
holding up English as the best or most important language, when really I think
most of us simply mean to say that English is the language we happen to use.
At least for me, I would gladly write the Musicians' Guide concurrently in all
four languages I know, except I don't have the specialist vocabulary... the
reality is, English is the only language I can use well enough to write this
document, and that's the reason its primary language is English.
On the other hand, we can always use the "Draft Documentation" section for
intermediate updates.
Whew!
Christopher

Kick off Fedora 18 with a Bang!
by Christopher Antila
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi everybody:
Now that Fedora 18 is released, I'm sure we're all wondering about the status
of the Fedora Jam spin. I don't know anything about that.
But I *do* know about the Musicians' Guide, which I published for Fedora 18
earlier today.
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/18/html/Musicians_Guide/index...
Now that we have our own spin (whether or not it's official), I'd like to try
moving forward with revisions to improve the Musicians' Guide. I have
virtually no spare time, and that's my reality for the forseeable future, so
instead I'd like to encourage everybody who uses Fedora's music/audio software
to contribute!
When you contribute to documentation for free software, you're making it
easier for somebody else to take their first steps into unknown territory.
Comprehensive, accessible documentation is, in my opinion, one of the most
important tools we have when trying to spread free software to new users.
Here are two easy ways to join in...
1.) Check out our list of bugs:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/buglist.cgi?bug_id_type=anyexact&list_id=1016...
guide&product=Fedora%20Documentation
If you see something that you can do (or do part of), just add your proposed
changes as a comment on the Bugzilla issue. Maybe you can rewrite an entire
chapter or section, one paragraph a day. Later on, I'll pick up your revised
version, add the Docs Project-specific markup, and publish your changes with
Fedora 19!
2.) Start using the Musicians' Guide, and report issues:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/enter_bug.cgi?product=Fedora%20Documentation
The biggest challenge I have in maintaining this 270-page document is that,
because I know there are *tons* of different areas for improvement, it's
difficult to know where to start. Feedback from real users is invaluable in
helping to know where to spend my time. Even if it's as simple as fixing a
typo, clarifying a sentence, or including/excluding additional information,
your feedback is extremely important.
And heck, let us know when things are going well, too!
Christopher

Fedora Jam is not out?
by Fermin Molina
Hi,
Fedora 18 is now out, but it seems that Fedora Jam Spin isn't.
I think I read that the release of Fedora Jam will take place with the
Fedora 18 release... maybe I'm wrong or misreaded some email.

I see you've already contributed translations for some resources--thank you!
Some of the resources (especially LilyPond and SuperCollider) are not
available for translation because I intend to rewrite those chapters from
scratch. I'm not sure what would stop you from translating most of the rest of
the Guide.
I would also welcome your contributions directly to the English version, if
you wish. In fact, if you don't mind translating something that will change in
about a year, I will unlock the SuperCollider and LilyPond chapters for you.
You could also rewrite the chapters in Spanish first, then translate to English
later!
Let me know if you have other questions or difficulties.
Thanks again,
Christopher
