Ardour version in repository
by Keith Smith
I'm currently having frequency crashing with Ardour 6.6 associated with
a few different plug-ins (sfizz, Vital, Rudolf 556, Mephisto). While
the bugs may reside with the plugins, Ardour 6.6 may also have issues.
Ardour 6.7 is now released, but has not yet shown up in the Fedora Jam
repository.
Ardour requires payment to download. I also rather install from the
Fedora Jam repository, so my question is:
If Ardour 6.7 is forthcoming to the repository I could wait for it, if
not I'll either build from source or other options.
Is there a schedule as to when Ardour 6.7 will be upgraded in the Fedora
Jam repository?
Also, Once they are working and stable, where would I request adding
additional plugins to the Fedora Jam repository?
Thanks,
Keith

Fedora 34: SFZ LV2 synth
by Keith Smith
I've been looking for an LV2 SFZ synth plugin for Ardour 6.6 that runs
under Fedora 34. There doesn't seem to be one in the repositories.
The three that I'm aware of are LinuxSampler, sfizz and liquidsfz.
So far I've tried downloading the lv2 binaries. I have not yet tried
to compile and make any of them under Fedora 34.
LinuxSampler is a little weird and seems to want to run as a server.
There doesn't seem to be an LV2 plugin for Fedora 34 yet. I ran it in
a terminal, but didn't try to get it to work via pipewire routing
to/from Ardour. I rather have an Ardour lv2 plugin.
Sfizz shows up in Ardour 6.6 and works for awhile, but Ardour keeps
crashing randomly. Seems to be sfizz related. The problem report
engine fails to generate a report when it crashes. Says bad
configuration or corrupt crash data.
liquidsfz installs as an lv2 plugin, but so far I have been unable to
get any audio out of the plugin.
I might try compiling sfizz and/or liquidsfz under Fedora 34. The sfz
sound font format has some advantages over the sf2 format that
fluidsynth and others use. It would be nice if Fedora 34 could have a
decent sfz synth lv2 plugin.
Any advice is welcome, I'll report if I get better results after
building from source code.

Don't get angry, but I'm only trying to help. Are you using KDE on Wayland (default) or on X11? I have big problems on Wayland, doing pretty much anything, but my problems disappeared when I signed into X11.
Good luck,

Fedora Jam 34 (upgrade): Ardour 6.6 freezes during export or Loudness Analyzer
by Keith Smith
Just tried to export a sound file form Ardour 6.6 and found it does not
work.
Export dialog opens, lets you select settings, but upon clicking the
export button it just freezes.
The dialog can be dismissed and no errors (other than missing mp3
encoders which I wasn't using) show-up.
Similar behavior with the loudness assistant. I also selected
real-time, and it plays through the song before freezing.
I'll start hunting for a solution, in the meantime if you also are
experiencing these problems please respond (especially if you have a
solution).
thanks,
Keith
