Hi all,
we are now very close to F22 and we still have no features for your
spins, except design and scientific who replied immediately (thank you!).
I think the websites should in some way interest you, in my eyes they
are the connection between end users and Spin SIGs.
I'm not worried about the description or the content we already have on
the old spins.fpo website. I'd like to know from you which features are
characteristic for your spin, you should also provide the SVG icon and a
small text description. If this is not possible, please give us urgently
a list of the features, as shown in:
http://labs.stg.fedoraproject.org/it/design-suite/
http://labs.stg.fedoraproject.org/it/scientific/
You can reply to this email and I can look for the rest if you are not
interested in providing icons or text.
Sorry for speaking so frankly, but I really don't understand why only
few SIGs are responsive here. We need to code the pages within this week
to give l10n teams the chance to translate the websites in time.
I hope to hear soon from you.
Thank you.
Robert

Dear Spin owners,
probably you heard it already but after getfedora.org
<http://getfedora.org> for F21, the websites team is redesigning
spins.fedoraproject.org <http://spins.fedoraproject.org> and we
decided to split the content there in desktop spins and functional
spins.
The Spins you own actually will go under a complete new website,
labs.fedoraproject.org.[1] We are already working on it and I made
an example for the Design Suite to show you how it will look like. [2]
All Spins will have their own space and therefore I'm asking you to
help us with the content. I should be able to write all the rest,
but as you can see we want to promote the most important features of
every single Spin, in order to give end-users an overview of what
they get when installing your spin.
It would be very helpful if you could reply with a list of features
and some short description of them, maybe also with an SVG of the
icon if it's spin related. Otherwise I can try to find one somewhere
else.
We don't have much time left until F22 final release and labs.fpo
will not be the only new website. Be so kind and try to get back to
me ASAP, we need to code the pages and give translators some time to
work on it.
For any question o doubt feel free to contact me.
Thank you.

Naming of Ardour packages
by Nils Philippsen
Hi all,
with the advent of Ardour version 4, the question came up why the oldest
available version 2 is packaged as "ardour" rather than the latest one:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1216055#c15
The reason for keeping version 2 around is that while later versions can
migrate old sessions, some information is lost in the process. Ardour
version 3 became ardour3 so people could install both versions 2 and 3
side-by-side, and that the new package got reviewed instead of the old
one (which would have been the case had I submitted an ardour2 package
for review). In that vein I packaged version 4 as ardour4, also because
ardour3-4.0.0 would have looked plain silly (despite that the session
files are compatible between versions 3 and 4) and introducing a new
major version replacing the old one with a substantially changed
look-and-feel in an existing Fedora release is a big no-no.
The question posed in the ardour4 review ticket is valid though, so I'd
like to come up with a scheme for the future that achieves these
objectives:
- Installing "ardour" will always get you the latest available version
(on a Fedora release -- e.g. F-20 won't get version 4 because the JACK
package is too old).
- Every major version gets its own package so side-by-side installs are
possible, especially for occasions where the session format changes
(like v2 -> v3).
- Versions which are session-compatible with newer versions get retired
from Fedora releases that aren't stable yet (e.g. v3 because the session
format is the same as with v4).
I'd do it like this (in Fedora >= 22):
- Move version 2 to its own ardour2 package. This would get it
re-reviewed but I guess that's a mere formality.
- Reuse the ardour package as a meta-package which simply requires the
latest versioned package.
- Retire ardour3.
What do you think?

Hello everyone,
Please join us Wednesday, May 20th from 5:15pm-6:30pm for a pre-concert
talk/guest colloquium by Juan Pampin and Ake Parmerud, whose works will
also be presented in the Bing Studio later that evening.
Event's page:
https://ccrma.stanford.edu/events/guest-colloquium-may-20th-juan-pampin-a...
Artist Bios:
*Juan Pampin* is Associate Professor of Music Composition at University
of Washington, Seattle, and founding faculty member of the Center for
Digital Arts and Experimental Media (DXARTS), for which he currently
serves as Director. He graduated from Conservatoire National Supérieur
de Musique de Lyon, France, where he studied with Philippe Manoury and
Denis Lorrain. He got a DMA from Stanford University where he studied
composition with Jonathan Harvey and computer music at the Center for
Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA).
Juan Pampin’s works explore the territory delineated by the concepts of
site, memory, and materiality through the use of algorithmic strategies
to produce aural phenomena. His music compositions, including pieces for
instrumental, digital, and mixed media, have been performed around the
world by world-class soloists and ensembles such as Susana Kasakoff,
Garth Knox, JACK quartet, Percussions de Strasbourg, Krakow Percussion
Ensemble, to name just a few. His work "On Space" –for percussion sextet
and 3D electronic sounds– has been recently released on CD as part of
Les Percussions de Strasbourg 50th anniversary historical edition box
published by Universal France.
*Åke Parmerud* has successfully pursued a professional career in
contemporary music and multi-media art since the late 70’s. Although he
originally trained as a photographer ( 1972-74 ) he went on to study
music at university and subsequently the Göteborg Conservatory of Music.
In addition to his electro-acoustic and instrumental music, his prolific
list of works includes compositions covering a broad cross-section of
modern experimental music in the fields of dance, film, interactive art,
multi-media, theatre and video.
Åke’s work has been acclaimed since his piece “Proximities” received
first prize at the 1978 Bourges International Electroacoustic Music
Festival in France. Since then he has received 17 international prizes
and 3 major Swedish prizes (see prizes and awards
<http://parmerud.com/MediaArtist/Awards.html>). On two occasions he has
also received the Swedish “grammy” award for Best Classical Album of the
Year and his music has represented Swedish Radio twice at The Prix Italia.
He is regularly commissioned to compose works by important international
institutions and his works have been presented worldwide. In 1997 his
piece “Grains of Voices” was performed at the U.N in New York on United
Nations Day. His music has been released on numerous albums and
compilations, and in 1998 he became a member of The Swedish Royal
Academy of Music.
Åke Parmerud is not just a composer he is also a stage performer,
playing electro-acoustic concerts using many different types of
interactive instruments - often solo. He has toured extensively in
Europe, North and South America. In the late 80’s he teamed-up with
composer Anders Blomqvist, and their live performances - which included
fireworks - were successful all round Europe well into the 90’s.
The last ten years have seen Åke working as an innovative sound and
software designer for interactive audio/visual installations. His own
works “The Fire Inside”, “The Living Room” and “Lost Angel” have been
shown in Berlin, Göteborg, Leon, Mexico City, Paris and Reykavic. He has
also designed concerts and been artistic director for large audio/visual
events both indoors and outdoors.
Åke’s artistic reputation has led to several creative international
collaborations. Between 1999 and 2006 he worked closely with the Danish
“art team” Boxiganga <http://www.boxiganga.dk/>, developing
revolutionary interactive video installations plus exploring telematic
concepts and interactive solutions for live performances. In 2000, 2001
and 2002 he also worked with Canadian choreographer Pierre-Paul Savoi
<http://www.ppsdanse.com/>as composer, sound and software designer.
His most recent stage work “Metamorphos” was developed together with
Canadian dance choreographer Mireille Leblanc
<http://www.mireilleleblanc.com/> who also choreographed the interactive
sound/video-installation “Lost Angel” and the prize winning dance
performance ”The Seventh Sense”.
He recently formed AudioTechture <http://www.audiotechture.se/> with
Olle Niklasson. This is a company specialising in acoustic interior
design for diverse environments from private houses to public spaces.
He is also a member of an international multi-media/multi-disciplinary
arts organisation: Celestial Mekaniks. <http://celestialmekaniks.com/>

I didn't see a link for Jam on the F22 Beta page. Is there any testing we
need, or karma to do to get that in order? Anyone have links?

Review request: ardour2
by Nils Philippsen
Hi all,
as discussed, we want to rename the ardour package to ardour2 to avoid
that people inadvertently install this old version. Too bad, this needs
a review of the renamed package:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1219948
I'd be grateful if somebody would take care of it. Thanks!

Review request: ardour4
by Nils Philippsen
Hi folks,
took me a while but I've submitted ardour4 for review to be included in
Fedora 21+:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1216055
I'd be very grateful if someone would pick up the review.
I've also built binary packages in copr, so if you want to give the new
version a whirl, you can do so by enabling the nphilipp/ardour4 copr
repo, and installing ardour4. These should later smoothly transition
over to the official packages when there are any, so have fun!
