Netgear WG511 && WEP (on an emachine)
by Anthony Presley
Hi All --
I recently picked up an eMachine 6805, and got it up and running FC2,
using the 64-bit version of the OS. Overall, it's not bad.
I realize that the Broadcom 802.11g chip is a LONG way from being
supported, at all (any change in this?), so I went out a picked up a
Netgear WG511, 802.11g. This card uses the prism54 module / driver, and
works VERY well if I do not use WEP.
However, if I'm using WEP, it doesn't work at all. It cannot fetch an
IP address, or anything. The hex key is being stored in
/etc/sysconfig/networking/devices/keys-eth1, in the format:
KEY=s:XXXXXXXXXXXXX
I've tried with several different keys (always key 1 on the router), and
two different routers / access points / firewalls. Under Windows, this
same card has no problems.
Is WEP working with prism54? What about on the 64-bit kernel?
What else am I missing?

You are trying to install on a machine which isn't supported by this release of Fedora Core
by Jurgen Lamsens
Hi,
I encountered the same error somebody posted on the Bugzilla forum:
"You are trying to install on a machine which isn't supported by this
release of Fedora Core."
I installed Fedora Core 1 from CD's that were included in the book 'Red Hat
Linux and Fedora Unleashed' from
The authors Bill Ball and Hoyt Duff.
Some guy Matt responded to this posting with:
Hi Chris!
It seems you are not the first to have this problem:
http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-list/2004-January/msg06460.html
http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-list/2004-January/msg06177.html
The second link suggests it may be that the kernel package is not being
included in the package list. See this Bugzilla report for an anaconda
code snippet that shows what triggers this error message:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=106590
BTW, Are you the same Chris Negus of "Red Hat Linux Bible" series fame?
If so, I own your book; it's great! :-)
Regards,
-Matt
I just selected the 'install server' option, and after the partitioning I
also have to wait for about 10 - 15 minutes before the message pops up, just
the same
situation like the one above.
The Bugzilla report mentions the fact that a package named kernel has to be
included in the RPMS list. Does that mean that my Fedora Core 1 CD's are
bad ? I installed them perfectly on a regular Compaq PC.
Thanks in advance,
Greets,
Jurgen L.

system-config-printer and two networks without a bridge

The line marked above lets me use cups with two networks, 192.168.1.* and
192.168.2.*, which are across an unbridged P2P T1, so broadcasts don't pass
through. (I would guess that an allow from for a network would work, too.)
But I have no clue how to get system-config-printer to do this, nor how to
get it to leave it alone if I do it. Will system-config-printer do this,
somehow?

Rpm installer...
by MG
Hi!
Are there any rpm installer (with dependecies!) program for Fedora which
install packages from ftp,http,cdrom?
I mean like the apt in debian.
The apt (apt-rpm.tuxfamily.org) cannot install from Fedora CDs. :(
Bye!

FC-2 Add/Remove Applications rant ...
by Shaun T. Erickson
<rant>
Why is it that it insists on only looking for the rpms on the
installation CDs? Why can't I tell it to brose to the local directory,
where I have all of them stored? Why can't I tell it to get them from
the net? Seems pretty braindead that I'm forced to get them from a CD.
Is there something else, graphical, that I can use to manage my rpms,
both installed and uninstalled, that's not so brain-dead?

FC2 Gnome/KDE went south on me
by Bruce Ecroyd
After a week of running stable on a new install of FC2 (non SELinux),
something 'blipped' and now I can't log in via either KDE or Gnome
(hangs). Xfce is fine though. Most applications start up normally
under Xfce, but Evolution won't start up. All of the 'up2dates' had
been applied as of today.
I'd (ideally) like to get things back without reinstalling FC2.
Anyone have any thoughts on things I can try to see if I can isolate
what's happened?
(or a recovery mechanism).

Fedora Core 2 and P4C800 mobo
by Lukasz Szelag
Hi,
I read about the bug in FD2 release which prevents it from being
installed on a P4C800 system. I was wondering if there are any solutions
to this, for example installing FC1 first and then upgrading to FD2?

Toshiba Laptop keyboard problem - FC2
by Rui Alberto L. Gonçalves
Hi,
I'm running FC2 in a Laptop Toshiba. Everything is working
properly, except for the keyboard. It freezes for about 1 or 2
seconds and then starts working properly again!! Keys are not
buffered during the freezing time. (I end up loosing everything I type
during the freeze)
Any idea?
Thanks for any help.
Rui
