Regarding MP3 support
by viraj ambetkar
Hi,
I installed FC3 and still found out that MP3s are still not supported.
I understand the issues involved with MP3s. However, I would like to
add that MP3s need not always be pirated.
Is it possible for me to play MP3s in FC3 using XMMS? I tried
installing RealPlayer 10, but to no avail. I have burnt a data CD in
Windows XP with MP3s. The CD is not even recognized in XMMS,
RealPlayer or Noatun. I can play audio CDs just fine.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

FC3 Where is lvm.conf on the CD iso's?
by windcrest
This is in regards to bug 141781, I'm trying to install raid1 and LVM.
A friend of mine and I have look though the FC3-i386-discX.iso's and
have tried to find the cd and image where the lvm.conf files resides
(or gets created) so that we could change the value of
md_component_detection and get LVM and raid1 working together. We have
looked through the iso's and have been unable to find its location.
Would anyone be able to provide me with information as to where the
file is located? Thanks.

What about:
rpm -q --whatprovides Tar.pm
-----James' Reply-----
Don't you have to install an additional .rpm to get this functionality? I
had to, just in case the .rpm was not installed on my system. Details are
in the archive on installation of the appropriate files.

Reverse SSH tunneling
by m g
I'm trying to set up reverse ssh tunneling between two boxes, one
behind a firewall (the box I want to SSH to) and one that isn't (which
is ssh'able).
I've found ssh -R, but i'm wondering if there's a better way to do
this than leaving my user constantly logged in to both servers ...
specifically, I'm thinking that this is a security risk. Any ideas?

RE: Still no sound. I have a Dell Demension 2350 and a Intel 82801Soundcard.
by Kyle Lagonegro (Student-Lagone37)
All the sliders are off zero and unmuted, not just master volume, none are that high, but my speakers are turned up so load, the kids in the dorm building over are going to be angry when I finally here this test sound.
system-config-soundcard has been ran, I think... I've been punching in so many things it's hard to keep track... I'll run it again and then give you those outputs.

In theory, it should work fine.
Have you run system-config-soundcard and simply answered yes when it
asks if you hear the test sound? I'm guessing maybe you have since the
volume controls work.
Did you turn all of the volume controls up or just the master volume?
You'll need to turn up at least PCM, Master and possibly OGain if there
is one. You may need to adjust other volume controls.
System-Config-Soundcard:
[root@localhost ~]# system-config-soundcard
Simple mixer control 'PCM',0
Capabilities: pvolume pswitch
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
Limits: Playback 0 - 31
Front Left: Playback 23 [74%] [on]
Front Right: Playback 23 [74%] [on]
Playing WAVE '/usr/share/system-config-soundcard/sound-sample.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz, Stereo
No sound... As per usual.

What is the output of running this command:
/sbin/lsmod
/sbin/lsmon:
[root@localhost ~]# /sbin/lsmod

<http://wiki.xiph.org/VorbisHardware> is a good resource (I believe
the Vorbis website has been/will be updated to make the wiki more
accessible). I'd be careful with iRiver players, since some don't
support vorbis outside certain bitrates (really clashes with the whole
VBR principle). Cowon/iAudio/JetAudio (all the same company) do some
nice players with ogg support.
