linux rescue
by Ramazan Gezer
Hello,
I studied on FC 4 for some practice, after restarting the
compupter I saw something like that:
>>> cannot remove '/etc/dmseg/': Read- Only file system....
and about 7 more like this......: Read-Only.....
and nothing works.
I started with the rescue CD and from the command bash I made
something like that:
" chmod 777 / ".....because it said that "Read-Only file system" ..
See how new I am?
So what should I do?
Should I reload FC from 4 CDs for about an hour?
Thanks in advance...

OT: Thunderbird + procmail = is it possible?
by jack wallen
sorry about this OT post but...I searched the thunderbird support forums
but couldn't find any info about this.
i typically use fetchamil + procmail + evolution. i really want to get
evolution out of the picture because 1) it's WAY to slow to upgrade 2)
is buggy as all get out 3) is slow as all get out and 4) crashes
randomly. BUT, i use a procmail for local delivery on my machine. i want
to continue to use procmail for local delivery but thunderbird only
allows POP and IMAP. is this even possible?

You're not really supposed to edit the file manually, but its
/etc/sysconfig/iptables
I think the proper way to edit the file is to use
system-config-securitylevel or to run iptables commands manually and
save them with service iptables save.

Several things... To use sudo, as root give the command visudo. This
will give you a vi session that will allow you to edit the sudoers
file. Add your own, regular user account. For now, you probably want
to add something like:
dave ALL=(ALL) ALL
only replace "dave" with your account. Once you do, you can do things
like "sudo service iptables restart" from your regular user account.
You will be prompted for a password which is *your* account password;
not the root password. The whole idea of sudo is to allow a regular
user access to things normally only root can do but without having to
give them full root access. You can refine the above to only allow
access to certain commands at some point in the future.
You will need to update to a more recent kernel to get access to the
PCMCIA slot. I ran into the identical problem with some of the early
FC4 kernels, started playing with the 2.6.13 kernel from kernel.org, got
too busy to figure out what the problem was and now my PCMCIA slot
recognizes a card with the current FC4 kernel. Based on a discussion I
found on the Linux Kernel Mailing List (LKML), your PC card slot will
not work until you get to a more recent kernel.
Cheers,
Dave

Error installing Oracle 9i on Fedora Core 4
by Neshat Afroz
Hi
I am trying to install Oracle 9i on Fedora core 4. If I try installing it as
root then it errors out saying "cannot install as root". When I try
installing as a user I get the following error:

how I can complete the installation.

By default it will set up SMTP using TLS on port 465. What SBC yahoo has
published in the post above is irrelevant and I have used this with all of
the Symantec products. Also, I can send you a detailed doc on integrating
spam filters, ClamAV and also exporting the self signed keys that are
generated below and importing them into Outlook for both Postfix and dovecot
IMAP. If you want them email me off line and I will send them along.
Good Luck,
John

SIOCADDRT?
by Jonathan Carpenter
I have setup one server for multiple ips. But when I bring eth0 down and
then back up I get and error of:
SIOCADDRT network is unreachable
I am not exactly sure why I am getting this message everything seems to work
fine. I can access anything from this server and I can access this server
from anywhere. I have noticed some collisions and transmit errors. I am not
sure what would be causing this.
ifconfig returns
