Help with crash Fedora Core 4

Howdy, I was installing Audacity when I encountered a total lock-up failure. After reboot, the only thing that comes up is GNU GRUB (grub>) I tried to reinstall off of my original distro disks using the upgrade mode because I have gobs of files that I presently can not get to and I don't want to wipe the hard drive clean and start over loosing all my data. When I try to do the reinstall/upgrade I get an error message telling me that /usr/tmp is a directory and should be a symbolic link I should return it to the state of a symbolic link and restart the upgrade. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated..

Yum update the latest Fedora 4 Kernel

Hi - Just want to get the latest fedora 4 kernel. The kernel version 2.6.11-1.1369_FC4 keeps the same after I run "yum update". Then I run "yum update kernel-i686 kernel-devel-i686" and found that there are two versions of the installed packages for kernel.i686 and kernel-devel.i686: 2.6.11-1.1369_FC4 and 2.6.14-1.1644_FC4. Could anyone give any guide on how to get the latest FC4 kernel? Thanks, Min

How to autologin as a superuser

hi I am using Linux fedora core 3. How can i autologin as a superuser (root). i am able to autologin as a non-root user but not as a root. i can hande the security issues if i can autologin as a root. so if u know the solution mail me to hvreddy11110(a)gmail.com thanks in advance. Installing Firefox-1.5

Greetings; The latest firefox-1.5.tar.gz doesn't contain anything that looks like an installer. So whats the usual procedure? a question about fedora related with freebsd :)

when using freebsd, i can #cd /stand/ #sysinstall and get a graphical user interface with which i can do anything i want (reinstall,repair,configure ...etc) and also create groups and users belong to specific groups that i choose. the question is this : is there such an internafe that i can do same things on FC (espicially FC1 ?) asking this question cos i need to create a group named nagios then create a user named nagios which belongs to group nagios. theres a command adduser but dont know how to create a group and then add nagios user to nagios group. help please :) [ps: its great to be an expert on different platforms. and soon i'll be one :p or just hope so :)))]
