Newbie PPC Core 4 questions

I've tried downloading the PPC version of Core 4 several times to CD-R. Mediacheck shows all but the first .iso pass. Regardless of which mirror I use, the first .iso file always seems to faily the Mediacheck. I'm wishing to dual-partition my PowerBook G4 with OS X and Core 4. For the life of me I cannot understand why one file would fail the Media check from all mirrors. Then, following the instructions, I attempted to run 'sha1sum' to compare the Disc 1 .iso file with the reg from the site; however my terminal in OS X will not find the command 'sha1sum' to compare the two files. Any ideas on what to try next would be appreciated. Also - Is Fedora one of the kernels that will allow for repartitioning during the install process, or should I be reinstalling and repartitioning OS X prior to attempting a dual-partition install? If not, it is my understanding that for a machine running 1 GHz of RAM I should create a swap partition of about 2GB in size and a second partition for Core 4 that is around 10GB and that file type OS X extended is the preferred format. Is this correct? My HD is 80G and I do not anticipate using Fedora for any heavy image storage - mostly documents, email and internet. TIA AB -- Adam Boettiger NOTE: I value your time. Fedora and MD5

Dear friends, As you know; some applications like routing packages try to use MD5 signatures in order to provide a ligher level of security specially in message authenticity process. I have implemented this structure on BSD machines,yet I could not do so on fedora(may be due to some necessary modifications in Kernel). lapack error again!

It appears that the new version of lapack (after, but not including 3.0.28) creates an error. In particular, dgesvdd has problems and the recommended minimal memory allocation for LWORK is not liked: ** On entry to DGESDD parameter number 12 had an illegal value Any suggestions? Yelp

Hello, I discovered recently that I had Mozilla, in addition to Firefox, installed on my FC4 laptop. Today, I finally got around to removing Mozilla, only to find that yelp depends on it. So, my obvious question: why in the world does yelp need mozilla?? I recall that previous versions of Fedora did not have this dependency. Corrupted FAT32 writing with FC3

Hello, I've set up my laptop to dual boot Windos XP Home and Fedora Core 3. The drive is partitioned with ntfs, fat32 and ext3. I have Mozilla Thunderbird on Win and Linux setup to use the same files. This seems to work fine most of the time. But, whenever I compact the t-bird files from the Linux side, Windows reports that the Thunderbird directories or files are corrupt and unreadable. I don't know if this is a problem with Thunderbird(unlikely), Linux, Windows or the drive itself. I have run a disk sector scan from windows yielding no errors. Usually, the newly created mail files are crosslinked with another file. I've Googled a bunch of stuff and found nothing specific to FC3. Has anyone else had any problems like this? I'm buffaloed. NFS Mount over a Specific Interface

List users, I have a NIC that I would like to dedicate to an NFS mount. After much reading, I can't find any mount options that let me specify the interface. Mount seems to only want to use the first active NIC on the system. If anyone knows how to do this, I'd greatly appreciate your help. Yes, sshd is running, but any attempts to connect from another host on the network fail, and port scans reveal that there is nothing listening on port 22. I can live with telling sshd to only listen on IPV4 interfaces -- it just doesn't seem like I should have to. how do turn off an external hard drive

I have an 80 GB IOMEGA USB2 hard drive. Mounting it is easy. Unmounting seems to work, but when I push the power off button, the power stays on. gedit highlighting of c code.

I have 2 files, calculate.c and beforecalc.c. They have very similar contents yet when I edit both one is nicely hightlighted with colors to indicate strings, comments, etc. and the other is entirely black and white. Tweaking Fedora Source RPM builds

I'm trying to build a slightly patched version of the x11-xorg source RPM with the latest Unichrome drivers built in... And I have a generic RPM question. If I don't want to build in /usr/src/redhat/ but instead have an NFS mounted directory that I share amongst a variety of machines called /home/src/ instead, how would I do a "rpmbuild -bc" but override the directory that gets used? Do I need to redefine _topdir or $RPM_BUILD_ROOT or $RPM_BUILD_DIR or what? Thanks, -Philip P.S. Is there a good tutorial or O'Reilly book or whatever on becoming an RPM guru?
