Setting up automounts, milters, IPv6, etc.

Hi. I was hoping to get some pointers on how to do the following sysadmin chores: * I'm running sendmail+cyrus, and I'd like to configure a milter with some simple rules (for instance, don't accept email from sites that don't have IN-ADDR.ARPA records) * I'd also like to set up autofs, but it seems to be failing... I tried to set up an example /home mountpoint like the auto.master man page suggests, but they don't give an example of what /etc/auto.home would look like (and just coping auto.net into it doesn't work). Upgrade from RH9 to FC4 and missing yum

After I upgraded my RH9 system to FC4, I could not use up2date. The error message is that it could not import yum. I searched and could not find yum related packages in my system. I tried to search and download yum from my red hat network account. My system used to have a demo subscription in this account. Now it says 0 system is subscribed. But somehow when I search for software packages, it thinks my system is a RH8 and does not find any yum related packages. It seems like a catch-22 situation. I went to RPMFIND.NET and found 3 linux/noarch rpms that seem to be related to yum: yum-updateonboot, yum-utils, and yumex. Are these the right rpms to install? Do I need all of them? Hsin Wang

Xorg GDM problem:

I have been saving the configuration on logout but it doesn't seem to be responding. I think the problem lies somewhere else in the xorg configuration or the gdm configuration. I cant really figure out how to fix this.

2.6.14-rc2-git6 vs FC3

Hi, I have an FC3/x86-64 system and I wanted to try the latest-greatest mainstream test kernel. The compilation went OK but it didn't boot successfully, which seems to be an FC3 bug. The last lines on the console are: ------------------------------------------------- Switching to new root Enforcing mode requested but no policy loaded. Halting now. Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kil init! ------------------------------------------------- At that point, the initrd userspace already started up and loaded the required modules, e.g. ext3, SATA drivers, etc. Is FC3 (or its mkinitrd) that old to be incompatible with the latest kernel? At this moment I cannot upgrade to FC4 to confirm this. Best regards, Zoltán Böszörményi

Thank you for the response. I should have been more specific in my original post. The multiple NICs are on the NFS client. One NIC on the NFS client will be receiving HEAVY VoIP traffic and I want any NFS traffic to be offloaded to a separate NIC on the client, as shown: ________ ________ _| |_ | | |e| |e| | | VoIP |t| NFS |t| NFS | NFS | --------|h| Client |h|-------| Server | |0| |1| | | -|________|- |________| I'm looking for a way to tell the mount command on the NFS client which interface to use. It defaults to the first active interface. I can easily swap interfaces and IPs around in the box to meet my goal, but I was looking for a more flexible solution. I've read the pertinent man pages and the NFS section in my network administration guide but they make no mention of this. We are currently using NFS version 3. GDM/XORG problem;

hello guys again, I have reported this problem several times in the last couple of days and lately I thought it had something to do with the update for GDM coming from NRPMS. So yesterday I decided to re-install Fedora Core 4 from scratch after backing up all my important files. I enabled only the main repos for the subsequent update ( which is only the extras/updates repos) via YUM. (no NRPS repos are present either in my yum/yumex configuration or apt-get/synaptic config) Before performing the update I had already downloaded a couple of new Login Mangers from the Gnome.org website and they were working properly. Obviously after the update, which included the famous Xorg updates but no GDM update was mentioned in the list, the Login Manager changed again to that hateful plain default blue screen with reduced options compared to the initial ones. At this point I started to think that it must definately be something to do with the XORG UPDATES changing the login/gdm configuration. I executed the command /USR/SBIN/GDMSETUP from terminal and the loin setup screen appeared but none of the settings I was choosing seemed to be working after logging out and loggin back in. The login screen set up from System Settings Menu doesn't respond at all. What Am I doing wrong? Please help me solve this torment. Thank you in advance. Mirco

Failed boot log?

My FC4 laptop fails to boot a kernel I just downloaded with yum, and after flashing a couple of screens of boot text too fast to read it restarts the machine and I have to boot from my original kernel. I've searched in /var/log and can't find any record of the failed boot, so I'm having a lot of trouble diagnosing it. Is there a log of the failed boot somewhere on my machine that can help me determine what's going wrong? Thanks, Stephen Brueckner, ATC-NY

FC3 dual-head problems

This is the 3rd video card I've tried, and each time FC3 recognizes it, I go turn "dual-head" on in system-config-display, put in the details, and nothing happens. Most of the time I log out and back in to make sure X is restarting. A couple times I've done a reboot, all to no avail. The second screen stays blank. The machine dual-boots to W2K, which has been happy each time to drive both displays. Please help! Is this a bug in FC3? --Harlan

It's possible that the temp. rise is also related to general system activity; but I've seen several degrees C rise in temperature when tarring a filesystem. Also, manufacturer's specs cite higher power consumption when active than when idle; for my drive, spec says 1.05W idle, 2.5W reading/writing, 2.9W seeking.
