LVM Recovery Problem

I have a RHEL4(thus similar to FC3, which is why I ask here) server setup running with the root partition on a LVM. It was running fine until a 200GB dd disk image file was written to 157GB of free space. The dd file was from a 20GB hard drive, so I believe the problem was in the block size, but either way, the file system showed no increase in used space. The server was restarted, and during start up as the LVMs are started up, the message "file descriptor 3 open, mounting read-only" comes up. The system will start, badly broken, as the entire LVM is read-only. I restarted the system on a RHEL4 cd1, went into rescue mode, removed the dd file, restarted again on the hard drives, still get the same error. If I start up the system in rescue mode on the RHEL4 cd, I can access the filesystem with no problems, I can chroot into it, and actually run services with no problem and the services can access and use the LVM with no problem. Any suggestions on what to do? ppp question again.

I want to make ppp-connection under usual user (if it's safe, for now it is done under root - I'm the only user on this machine) - i think may this can help me to kill pppd when connection fails and the daemon does not control the situation... So, i found in ifup-ppp the following line that generate error 36: exec /sbin/ppp-watch "${CONFIG##ifcfg-}" "$2" as I start it simply by typing: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup-ppp /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-mf_gprs I checked /sbin/ppp-watch permissions, it is rwxr-xr-x - so ok. I do not understand what ${CONFIG##ifcfg-} means - I guess it hold the reason... So want to ask You, how make it done: to make user able to make ppp-connection? What is this rawhide thing?

Hi! I am trying to install FC4 from dvd onto a Dell PowerEdge SC420. The graphical installation fails, which I think is explained by Bugzilla #161242, which admits to a problem with x11 and vesa adapters. This talks about a fix having been imported to rawhide - but what is this rawhide thing? Does it provide an updated dvd iso image for FC4? Bear in mind that I don't have a system installed as yet, so an updated xorg-x11 rpm is no use to me, nor can I use yum or up2date. Unfortunately I need to use the graphical installation because I am trying to install to a pair of sata disks configured with software raid-1, and the text version of disk druid doesn't seem to support this. I started having problems with my laptop last night. Thought it had something to do with a wireless card I was messing with, but now I don't think so. Wireless in Compaq nx9110 Laptop

My laptop has a builtin wireless broadcom card. Using ndiswrapper I can get up to the point of getting an ip address. I can scan and see the wireless networks but when I bring up the NIC is fails to get an address. Haven't been able to get past that point. So I thought I'd try my dlink card. Using ndiswrapper it loads the driver and sees the hardware, but then I seem to have issues. Laptop has locked up four times since I started messing with it. I've removed the driver and I'm waiting to see if my laptop locks up again. Anyone have any thoughts on either of these situations? Thanks, James

FC/SCSI disk expert advice wanted

Hi all, Looking for someone who can point me in the right direction (mailing list perhaps, or some off-line advice) I have a bunch of Netapp FC disks: [root@testbox ~]# sg_logs /dev/sg0 NETAPP X232_ST173404FC NA29 I'm trying to get them to do something, and all I get out of them pretty much is this kind of response: [root@testbox ~]# sg_turs /dev/sg0 test unit ready: SCSI status: Check Condition Fixed format, current; Sense key: Not Ready Additional sense: Logical unit not ready, cause not reportable Field replaceable unit code: 2 plus...: Driver_status=0x08 [DRIVER_SENSE, SUGGEST_OK] Completed 1 Test Unit Ready commands with 1 errors Question is: are all these drives dead, or do they need some sort of coaxing with the SCSI mode pages to get them to work as normal (non-NAS/RAID) disks? thanks! -Mike

Ioctl problem

I want to add an alias IP into a particular interface through ioclt call. I used SIOCSIFADDR and SIOCSIFNETMASK to add the IP with the netmask. one problem here i am facing, instead of adding the alias IP it replace the actual IP of that interface. Re: NFS Mount over a Specific Interface

Apologies for the repost, but I flubbed the subject the first time... Thank you for the response. I should have been more specific in my original post. The multiple NICs are on the NFS client. One NIC on the NFS client will be receiving HEAVY VoIP traffic and I want any NFS traffic to be offloaded to a separate NIC on the client, as shown: ________ ________ _| |_ | | |e| |e| | | VoIP |t| NFS |t| NFS | NFS | --------|h| Client |h|-------| Server | |0| |1| | | -|________|- |________| I'm looking for a way to tell the mount command on the NFS client which interface to use. It defaults to the first active interface. I can easily swap interfaces and IPs around in the box to meet my goal, but I was looking for a more flexible solution. I've read the pertinent man pages and the NFS section in my network administration guide but they make no mention of this. We are currently using NFS version 3. problem with mdstat

Hi, I have on one of my servers problems with the mirror, cat /proc/mdstat shows the following md4 : active raid1 sdb3[1](F) sda5[0] 4196224 blocks [2/1] [U_] I would, due to the lower line, think that the sda5 is out, but the "F" bothers me. Do any you know how to handle the situation? BR. Arnar

FC4, Free space: 0 Bytes??????

Hi cheers, I m using FC4 on a DELL laptop. This tow last weeks since I installed it it was runnig ok. and I leave my PC runing 24 hours per day. Since yesterday I have no Free space on my laptop. I have 15 GBytes dedicated for FC4 I think that last time I saw my free space it was 3Gbytes. But since yesterday I have no free space But I didn't put any new Big file on my laptap. it seem as if the /tmp directory or the /var directory have problems My /var directory have 7.4GBytes it is to much. and the /tmp have 1.1GBytes????
