What's up with yum lately
by Douglas Phillipson
For the past couple of months, yum seems a bit flaky. Running FC4 some
of the repositories are unavailable and yum just fails and dies. Are
there any parameters I can set in my xxxx.repo files or yum.conf that
will allow yum to continue if a repository is down? If a particular
repository is down, I still want to update anything from repositories
that are up.
I'm also getting the following error:
Setting up Update Process
Setting up repositories
Reading repository metadata in from local files
primary.xml.gz 100% |=========================| 861 kB 00:03
http://ftp.belnet.be/packages/dries.ulyssis.org/fedora/linux/4/i386/dries...:
[Errno -1] Metadata file does not match checksum
Trying other mirror.
Error: failure: repodata/primary.xml.gz from dries: [Errno 256] No more
mirrors to try.
Does this indicate someone is trying to spoof a repository?
Thanks

openswan
by Michaël Hooreman
Hello,
Apparently, openswan is not supported in the Red Hat 4.3 distribution,
but is supported by Fedora Core 5.
Do you know if openswan will come back in Red Hat, or if it will be
removed from Fedora?
Best regards

Yum - Removal of dependant packages.
by Dan
Hi list,
I installed FC5 on one of my test machines Monday afternoon. My
first impression is that it is very stable, everything pretty much
works as expected and it's a pleasant to use system.
I do have one question that I haven't been able to find an answer
for as yet. I installed licq (and the four or five packages that
came with it) on Monday afternoon. Later I decided I didn't need it,
so I used Yum to remove licq. I was a bit surprised when Yum only
listed licq for removal with no mention of the other programs licq
pulled in when it was installed.
Does Yum not remove dependant packages or did I need to do more than
Yum remove <package>?
Kind Regards,
D

Re: FC5 Canon LiDE 30 and libusbscanner
by Croombe F. Pensom
I have an LiDE20 (which is virtually the same machine) and it worked
fine under FC3, FC4 and FC5. I think the clue is to have it connected to
your system when you install FC5. I also found it helps to have it on a
dedicated USB port rather than a port expander : quite why, I don't
know.
Hope this helps.

You probably would be better off getting a squeezebox ...

Location of /gdm/Init/:0 or equivalent file in FC5?!
by Chris Bradford
Hi all,
This sounds daft I know, but I need to know what this file is now called
in FC5.
In FC4 I used it to call x11vnc at the login manager, so I could use vnc
and login to gdm.
Unfortunately this file has seemed to vanish!
Is it just hidden away else where? I have done a search for it and found
nothing.
Possibly its now under a new name?
Hopefully a nice and simple question,
Cheers,
Chris Bradford

Screensavers for FC5?
by Jim Lowman
Hello,
Like FC4, I noticed that FC5 has only a few screensavers
after a clean install.
I followed the instructions as I did with FC4, namely:
# yum install xscreensaver-extras xscreensaver-gl-extras
but still have only a few available on the GUI utility.
Obviously something has changed.
Any and all advice welcome.
Thanks in advance...Jim

Shortcuts for applications in GNOME
by wwp
Hello there,
isn't there a way to start an application using a keyboard shortcut in GNOME?
I would have expected this ability from the application's properties (when
added to a panel for instance). I couldn't imagine that there would be such
lack in the GNOME usability..
Any clue? What did I miss?
Regards,
