by Christian Brink
I'm running FC6 with a Radeon Xpress 200M. I have had direct rendering
working for months but after the last livna update of the fglrx drivers
it stopped. Can anyone help me track down the problem?

cd installs under FC6 fail
by Jack Howarth
I am seeing an odd problem under x86_64 FC6. A number
of different programs that I have tried to install from
CD have all failed with the error message of the form...
sh: ./MathInstaller: /bin/sh: bad interpreter: Permission denied
This happens regardless of whether I am in the root account
when I mount the CD or not. I have had to make a tar archive
of the contents and of the CDs, untar these on the hard drive
and run the installers from there. What is causing this problem
under FC6? Thanks in advance for any advice.

is LVM safe for RAID-1?
by Jack Howarth
I've been setting up software RAID-1 configurations
since Fedora Core 2 with normal partitions instead of
using LVM. I was wondering what the consensus was about
using LVM for software RAID partitions? My inclination
is that, unless one plans on adding additional drives
to the LVM partitions later, it really only adds another
layer of code that can break. Thanks in advance for
any comments.

Updated Fedora Core 6 Distribution fails to enable E1000 Ethernet device using 2.6.19 kernels
by Terry Barnaby
Hi,
I am trying to create an updated Fedora Core 6 distribution with all of
the package updates to date and then install this across a network using
a simple boot CD and NFS. I am using the
"/usr/lib/anaconda-runtime/buildinstall" program to do this.
Generally this was working fine until I tried to update to the 2.6.19
kernel. Now when I boot from the CD the Anaconda installer attempts to
configure the E1000 Ethernet interface with DHCP but fails.
In the Alt-F3 VT there are messages stating "send_packet: Network is
down". The E1000 driver appears to have been loaded however.
If I rebuild the distribution with a 2.6.18 kernel everything is fine.
So is there some issue between Anaconda, the 2.6.19 kernels and the
E1000 network interface ?
Is there a way of enabling the debug login shell on "Alt-F2" at this
stage of boot so I can track down the problem further ?
Cheers

FC5: logrotate failure (inconsistent date in logrotate.status)
by wwp
Hello all,
seems that logrotate (logrotate-3.7.3-2.2.1) fails here for weeks, as I see
abnormally growing logs. /var/log/messages shows:
logrotate: ALERT exited abnormally with [1]
I wonder if that's related, but launching `logrotate /etc/logrotate.conf`
manually tells me:
error: bad year 1932 for file /var/log/cups/access_log in state file /var/lib/logrotate.status
I can see many lines in /var/lib/logrotate.status that show such 1932-date.
This status file itself is dated from 1932-10-25. Any idea wow could I fix
that w/o breaking anything?
Regards,

FC6 + source for Nvu build help
by linuxmaillists@charter.net
This is my first time attempting to build from source.
Below are the instructions for building Nvu from source. I
am doing this as root.
Building Nvu From Source
Nvu 1.0
If you want to build Nvu from the source, please following
these directions.
1. First read and follow the build instructions for your
platform. If you want to build on Windows, make sure to
download bzip2 with Cygwin.
Did, don't think there was a problem
2. Get the sources and save them on your disk
Did no problem
3. Uncompress-untar the sources
tar xfj nvu-1.0-sources.tar.bz2
Did no problem
This creates a directory called mozilla
4. Go into the directory mozilla/composer/config , grab
your preferred mozconfig.* file and copy it to
mozilla/.mozconfig (dot mozconfig in the top mozilla
directory). Edit that file according to your wishes and
system configuration. Warning: the mozilla/composer/config
also contains a compressed patch against the Firefox 1.0
source tree: you don't have to apply that patch to the
source tarball linked above, it's already in.
Did no problem
5. Build the code.
make -f client.mk build_all
Did and got an error after about a minute of activity. Here
are the last several lines:
nsStackFrameUnix.cpp: In function ‘void
DumpStackToFile(FILE*)’:
nsStackFrameUnix.cpp:96: error: ‘JB_BP’ was not declared in
this scope
gmake[4]: *** [nsStackFrameUnix.o] Error 1
gmake[4]: Leaving directory `/home/user/mozilla/xpcom/base'
gmake[3]: *** [libs] Error 2
gmake[3]: Leaving directory `/home/user/mozilla/xpcom'
gmake[2]: *** [tier_2] Error 2
gmake[2]: Leaving directory `/home/user/mozilla'
make[1]: *** [default] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/user/mozilla'
make: *** [build] Error 2
I replaced above the real user name with user
How can I find out what went wrong? What did I miss?
6. After the build, there is in the mozilla/dist/bin
(Linux) or mozilla\dist\bin (Windows) directory a file
called nvu or nvu.exe. Just run it to start Nvu. On Mac,
just double-click on mozilla/dist/Nvu.app. Don't forget to
look at the Tips and Hints section at the bottom of this
page.

FC5 seliux error trying to load local policy module
by Mark Haney
I have selinux running on one of my servers and followed the FAQ on FC5
to build a local module that allows some scripts I"ve built to run
correct on this server.
However I'm encountering a problem. When I try to run semodule -i
local.pp I get this:
> /usr/sbin/semodule -i local.pp
> /usr/sbin/semodule: Could not read file 'local.pp':
I've tried adding the path to the local.pp file, but it makes no
difference. Has anyone else had this problem?

OT: HTML Editors
by maillist@sios.ca
I am trying to find a FC6 compatible html editor that works well with
the W3C standards and also offers a gui layout process. Seamonkey has
the gui process but strips out some cosing tags that the W3c standards
require. Bluefish does not strip out the tags but is a text only style
editing process. The text only editing process works for me but as I am
trying to find a gui driven w3c compliant editor for a entry newbe web
design course I am working on I would prefer to instruct the basics from
a gui perspective.
Anyone know of a FC6 compatible w3c compliant gui html editor.
