NVIDIA graphics driver version format announcement

This post is an early notification to anyone that repackages the NVIDIA UNIX Graphics Driver. Starting in the Release 100 driver series, NVIDIA will revise the format of the version number for the UNIX Graphics Driver. In the past, the NVIDIA UNIX Graphics Driver version format was "1.0-XXXX" (e.g., "1.0-9746"). Starting in Release 100, the new format will be a collection of period-separated fields (e.g., "100.17.03"). The left-most field will indicate the major release series ("Release 100", Release "105", etc.). The second field and optional third or additional fields will be used for NVIDIA tracking. The version number will be a variable number of fields, however it will consist only of digits and periods. This version format change will apply to both the package filenames, and the names of the libraries. Examples: /usr/lib/libGLcore.so.100.17 NVIDIA-Linux-x86-100.17-pkg1.run NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-100.17-pkg2.run NVIDIA-Solaris-x86-100.17.run NVIDIA-FreeBSD-x86-100.17.tar.gz # glxinfo | grep "OpenGL version string" OpenGL version string: 2.1.1 NVIDIA 100.17 # cat /proc/driver/nvidia/version NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86 Kernel Module 100.17 Mon Feb 12 14:37:08 PST 2007 GCC version: gcc version 4.1.1 20060525 (Red Hat 4.1.1-1) After the Release 100 driver series is released, we will make a similar change to the 1.0-96xx and 1.0-71xx legacy GPU release branches. generic HW question about SATA

Hey, I'm upgrading my main linux box this weekend. I have about a TB worth of HD's to use, all ATA. I know that the new standard is SATA, and i actually have ONE SATA drive that I could use if I wanted to (its in a USB box right now). But never having used SATA, can ATA and SATA be used in the same PC? For examplecan I have all 4 ATA channels full (3 HD's and a DVDRW) and then activate the SATA channels in BIOS and throw this single drive on the back end as well? Data-Junky Thanks j

diskless boot: anyone else having trouble with network in initrd nashafter PXE?

When booting diskless, after PXE gets an IP address from DHCP and boots the kernel, the initrd is loaded and nash runs the init script. Eventually it tries to start up the network interface (which is already up under PXE): network --device eth0 --bootproto dhcp This fails with recent kernels / mkinitrds. It works fine with kernel 2.6.18-1.2869 and the initrd created by the then-current mkinitrd. My bug report is: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=225479 I am curious if other diskless booters are seeing this problem? cannot print from OpenOffice in FC6- printer button is shadowed

Hello, I have FC6 on x86_64. I have open office on it. (openoffice.org-writer-2.0.4-5.5.10) When I try to print a document, the print button is disabled. To be precise: I go to file->print, in general tab I see my printer, but on the bottom right, the print button is disabled (grayed). Any ideas why? Regards, Mark

Boot fromn external HD

Hi, I have Debian and Windows XP installed in my internal HD, and just installed Fedora Core 6 in an external USB HD, but menu.lst in my internal HD was not updated. Service DNS and NTP from FC6

We have a nice, new, clean install of Fedora Core 6 -- and want to use it, among other things, as a DNS server and NTP source. I can verify from the console and from SSH sessions that the DNS does resolve correctly, and the NTP daemon does operate correctly. Both DNS and time service do what they're supposed to with respect to the local computer. However, I am unable to get the box to 'serve' these services. DNS inquiries and NTP inquiries seem to be ignored from both Windoze and other (older) Red Hat boxes. I have told the firewall to allow port 53 and 123 traffic -- and have even disabled the firewall completely (we are not connected to the Internet). This appears as if the named and ntpd are not listening on their designated ports. Any idea on how I can verify that? How can I make this server serve? Sendmail's 2GiB limit?

irq timeout in messages and the PC slow down

Hi all, I'm experiencing this behaviour and I don't understand why. Sometimes (at least 1 times for day) my kernel log those messages: Feb 21 10:51:56 delo kernel: hdc: irq timeout: status=0xd0 { Busy } Feb 21 10:52:01 delo kernel: hdc: status timeout: status=0xd0 { Busy } Feb 21 10:52:01 delo kernel: hdc: drive not ready for command Feb 21 10:52:06 delo kernel: hdc: status timeout: status=0xd0 { Busy } Feb 21 10:52:06 delo kernel: hdc: drive not ready for command Feb 21 10:52:11 delo kernel: hdc: status timeout: status=0xd0 { Busy } Feb 21 10:52:11 delo kernel: hdc: drive not ready for command repeated for at least 150 times. After that I see the messages Feb 21 10:58:56 delo kernel: hdc: ATAPI reset complete and all returns normal. I can't understand who is using hdc (that is a DVD) and why, but I think it's a scheduled job. Messages appears after the 2911 Kernel. Someone can help me solving this problem? Tnx Ambrogio
