YUM doesn't not work

Would appreciate help in solving this one. Spent a few days on this problem with no luck. Can't run yum. I think this is related to my accidental removal of site-packages. That i have tried to recover. This is my first FC post and am not sure if this output is of any use? Intermittent (but frequent) problem with FC6.

Folks, I have an intermittent (but frequent) problem with FC6. At first I thought it was a hardware problem, but now I don't think it is. This is a dual boot system. Windows XP does not crash at all, but FC6 crashes frequently. uname -a output: Linux Linux 2.6.18-1.2798.fc6 #1 SMP Mon Oct 16 14:39:22 EDT 2006 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Other facts: - Memtest completes multiple passes without detecting any problems - Both FC6 and WinXP are on the same hard disk (and since WinXP works fine I don't think it's a disk or disk controller problem.) - Same logic as above for the power supply. - Logging in text mode causes no problems; logging in with either GNOME or KDE crashes the system 99% of the time after a short period of time. - The other 1% of the time FC6 seems stable for at least several hours. In fact earlier this week it was up for 3 or 4 days with relatively heavy usage with no problems. - Periodically, in GNOME, straight but zig-zagged brown lines appear on the display. - As root, I can bring up the KDE environment but not the GNOME environment. As other users I can bring up both GNOME and KDE. - The crashes happen most frequently when I'm using Evolution, but since I use that more than anything else this may not be very indicative. - When crashes occur the display freezes but the mouse moves freely. - When crashes occur the only thing I can do is physically power off the machine. When I turn it back on it boots quickly with only this indication of errors: "usb 1-3: cannot allocate device 2 error -110" or something close to that. - I don't know too much about Linux, but I see no error messages from dmesg or in /var/log/messages - Thinking that this has something to do with X11, I have deleted the xorg.conf file and rebuilt it with system-config-display (several times.) So I'm at a loss at resolving this problem. Any suggestions? Thanks . . . Bob St. John

Inquiry problem with gnome-obex-send

Dear all, i found the Gnome bluetooth discovery service doesn't work in my up-to-date FC6 installation. Generally my bluetooth USB stick is supported very well, the cmdline bluez-tools "hcitool scan" and "sdptool browse SOMEADDRESS" do their job as one could expect, in Gnome the gnome-obex-server comes up when sticking in the device, so it seems everthing is fine. But when launching "gnome-obex-send SOMEFILE" both via cmdline or from nautilus context menu's "send to", it won't discover any bluetooth clients (tried with two mobile phones turned their bluetooth on and made them discoverable...). Running gnome-obex-send from a terminal shows the device scan is actually happen, since pressing the "Refresh" button makes the sticks led start blinking, and shortly after that the terminal gets the message "** Message: inquiry complete" - but gnome-obex-send doesn't stop inquiring, and no found devices will ever be shown. Since this has worked in previous FC versions it seems to be an FC6 issue. Has anybody a similar problem? Is this subject to Bugzilla? Sven

How should I file RFEs on RH's Bugzilla?

Hi, this is probably a dumb question, but... how do I file a RFE on RH's Bugzilla? According to bugzilla's own help [https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/page.cgi?id=fields.html#bug_severity], the "Severity" combobox should contain an "Enhancement" option, but currently it doesn't. What I've been doing is filing a (silly) bug report and prepend the description with "RFE:". I guess there should be a better way of doing this... any suggestions? BTW: what I am really trying to do is ask for version upgrades (such as with gaim, which is still at 2.0.0beta5 when 2.0.0beta6 has been released a month ago). TIA Andre -- Andre Oliveira da Costa

openvpn from extras

hey, i installed openvpn from extras. i took some time until i got it working somehow. i installed it as a routed tunnel. what does this mean? i can reach any server in my internal net using ping and ssh, but smtp, imap, web do not work at all. i inserted the outside subnet on the server-side with the iroute-optiion in the ccd-file. how can it be, that ssh is routed correctly, but imap or others aren't ? Thanks for any ideas Roger

Anyone have a Gimp 2.3.x RPM or SRPM

I want to check out development Gimp, preferably in parallel with stable Gimp, and use an RPM to do so. Before I reinvent the wheel, does anyone know of a source for source RPMs for Gimp 2.3.x.
