Adobe Reader 8.1.1 printing does not work
by reikred@gmail.com
Adobe Reader 8.1.1 printing does not work for me in F8_x86_64.
The printer indicates activity, but then goes back
to idle and nothing comes out. This is a postscript level 2 printer
(nec superscript 1800) and it works fine with Adobe Reader 7.
I also see that the printer often gets disabled in system-config-printer
after the above failure.
Is this a common problem? Any ideas on how to fix it?
The same pdf files print fine from Adobe Reader 8 in windows xp, but that is
via PCL and not PS.

Desktop == home directory in FC8?
by wob
Thanks for your reply.

If you used FC8, you'll notice there's no such thing as "Desktop",
your desktop IS your home directory, that means all your folders,
files on your home directory are visible on your desktop, which is
annoying. I'm not talking about browser or anything else.

Sorry my bad. it's "puts everything".

Raid1 post installation
by tony.chamberlain@lemko.com
Hello
They sent off a linux machine (installed with some software) to a customer.
Normally, when we install Linux (Cent OS 4.5) we do software Raid Level 1 during the
installation (/dev/sda and /dev/sdb). This machine went out without them doing it.
The machine that went out should already a /dev/sda and /dev/sdb (anyway to verify, if
/dev/sdb is not mounted?) and we need to perform Raid 1 on it, but we can't reinstall
Linux on it because it will overwrite evrything that is there.
Is there anyway to Raid a machine that already has linux installed on it without reinstalling
Linux over it?
Thanks

Where's ext2online?
by Kirk Lowery
I'm adding a 500GB drive to my (Fedora 8) desktop and want to extend
the root file system (journaled ext3) to use the new drive.
I've been reading all the FAQs and HOWTOs, and they mention the
program ext2online for the final step in the process. But I can't find
it anywhere. Is there a package that needs installing?
TIA!

loopback network device
by Jordi Prats
Hi all,
It's possible to create an alias of a device? Something like a device
loN that all it's traffic is send to ethN, so ethN and loN are equivalent.
It's for a bridged setup, i'm not trying to setup another IP on a device.
Thanks!

Kernel Tainting Video Installer *almost* finished
by Michael A. Peters
I built my new box a few days ago (x2 5200+) and put F8 on one of the
partitions - so I got to actually test and *somewhat* finish that shell
script for automated livna installation of closed source video drivers.
http://www.pennywasted.info/video.sh.txt
I looked and looked for a published pci id list for supported ati cards
but couldn't find one - so it's detection of ati cards is extremely weak.
It's detection of nvidia cards though is pretty good, at least as good
as nvidia's published list.
It looks for ati first - and even if found, continues to look for nvidia
- and goes for legacy then 96xx then current.
There may be a better way (IE detect only the video card main display is
attached to) but I figured if someone has more than one card, it's
probably and onboard and a expansion card, and the expansion is more
likely to have the display attached and be newer chipset and maybe need
newer driver. So for nvidia drivers, if newer is found, that's what the
radio list selection defaults to. User can still change it though.
Anyway - I think I'm done with it, if anyone wants to fix ati detection,
have at it.

For sure there must be someone at redhat who is officially tagged as the
owner of this list, or something like that.
What I meant was I have never seen anyone step in as an 'official'
moderator and filter out any ones posts, or tell they to stop doing
something. The list has far too high a volume for that to be practical
for one or even a few people... In practise it is left for ourself to
moderate it.
