Bonjour,
I have just installed f10 on a dell latitude E6400. It is not clear for
me if there is a webcam installed or not.
I did not find anything using lshw but:
1- there is a video kernel module in use (lsmod).
2- there are two messages in dmesg which I don't understand:
input: Video Bus as
/devices/LNXSYSTM:00/device:00/PNP0A03:00/device:34/device:35/input/input10
ACPI: Video Device [VID] (multi-head: yes rom: no post: no)
acpi device:3e: registered as cooling_device3
input: Video Bus as
/devices/LNXSYSTM:00/device:00/PNP0A03:00/device:3c/input/input11
ACPI: Video Device [VID1] (multi-head: yes rom: no post: no)
input: Video Bus as
/devices/LNXSYSTM:00/device:00/PNP0A03:00/device:43/input/input12
ACPI: Video Device [VID2] (multi-head: yes rom: no post: no)
Are theses messages related to an inboard webcam?
3- There is no video device in /dev
4- Cheese does not detect any webcam
How can investigate about this webcam (if any)?
Thanks for helping.

No icons or panels in Desktop, just wallpaper
by ashin george
I'm a beginner and had got a Fedora core 7 in my Laptop., It worked fine in
the first days. But now on logging in to the desktop there is no Panels or
Icons in the desktop. Just the Wallpaper. The cursor appears and it can be
moved. I can't do anything., I just restarted. Done it many times but same
thing happens.

Thanks Mikkel,
But it does not work. However, cutting and pasting the Fedora 9 grub entries for the kernel lets me boot into Fedora 9, so practically it is a DONE deal. Thanks for answering the mail much appreciated. The chainloader stuff did not work in this case, in the other case it worked for a while, but the chainloader stuff failed to load those kernels only GRUB_ appeared on the screen so cutting+pasting the entries solved this issue.

Upgrade FC3 to FC10
by Moessbauer, David
Have an old system that requires upgrade from existing FC3 configuration
to FC10 for security concerns. Upgrade vice fresh install is necessary
to maintain existing proprietary application loads.
When attempt to utilize FC10 upgrade DVD it can not find a Linux load on
HDD, though it is there. Also tried with FC9, same results.
Any guidance would be appreciated.

Cron-o-meter (Java application) crashes F10 KDE 4.2.2 sessions.
by linux guy
I am running cronometer 0.9.5 as downloaded from
http://spaz.ca/cronometer/ .
It ran fine with KDE 4.2 and 4.2.1. It now crashes the session with KDE
4.2.2. It looks like something is wrong with repaint. It seems fine if
the application is just open, but as soon as you move the application
window the whole desktop area starts going weird.
$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_10"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_10-b33)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 11.0-b15, mixed mode)
BTW: Cronometer seems to be well written and its useful for people who
want to track diet and fitness goals. I recommend that it be included in
the Fedora repositories.
Thanks for listening.

rsync to clone server A to server B concerns?
by Paul Ward
Hi,
I want to clone server A to server B using rsync.
If server A is RHEL3 on a hardware mirror and I have a newer server B
that has new hardware and needs to be the same can I use rsync to copy
the OS and installed oracle installation?
My plan is to boot both servers up on a live cd, then copy the data
across the network.
I will first install a minimal install of RHEL3 on server b first then
use rsync.
I am concerned if the server will work afterwards due to different
hardware although both servers are IBM, and other issues like grub,
should I avoid updating grub.
Any advice would be welcome as doing the whole build from fresh and
installing all the custom software would be a pain.
Cheers

get hardware info through lspci
by Michael Casey
I've recently read:
Linux Find Out If PCI Hardware Supported or Not In The Current Running
Kernel<http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/linux-find-supported-pci-hardware-drivers.html>
So, if I:
grep 27d8 /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/modules.pcimap
and see this:
snd-hda-intel 0x00008086 0x000027d8 0xffffffff 0xffffffff 0x00000000
0x00000000 0x0
then it's sure that my PCI Hardware is supported? I Don't need anything to
do?
Is there a way for lsusb too?
How could I know that my hardware (connected to my pc or not) is supported?
- sorry for asking this: but is there a "devmgmt.msc" (windows..) "like"
software, solution under Linux, where can I see that is my pc's hardwares
recognized correctly?
Thank you
