missing alerts from Osmo in upgrade to F15: LXDE spin
by Ranjan Maitra
Hi,
A month ago, I upgraded from Fedora 14 to Fedora 15 (LXDE spin). I have
been using the LXDE spin since Fedora 12. I use Osmo and find it pretty
adequate for my needs. However, up til Fedora 14, the osmo task manager
(or whatever it is called) would pop up an alert when the time to do a
particular task arrived. This pop-up feature appears to be missing or has been
unwittingly turned off (perhaps by me) in Fedora 15. The button appears to be checked.
How do I get this back?
Please let me know if I am not being clear, or if more information
would be helpful.
Many thanks and best wishes,
Ranjan

How to enable CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE
by Reindl Harald
in the newest release the shortcut for restart X11 is disabled
and i hate it because if X11 drives crazy it is really useful
and where i work nobody kills my X11 if he won't killed self
i guess the following config-file does this disable but
the comment says "changes here are useless", so how tell
"system-setup-keyboard" not wanting the last line?
[root@rh:/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d]$ cat 00-system-setup-keyboard.conf
# This file is autogenerated by system-setup-keyboard. Any
# modifications will be lost.
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "system-setup-keyboard"
MatchIsKeyboard "on"
Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
Option "XkbLayout" "de"

NM_CONTROLLED=no not working
by Ian Pilcher
I feel like I'm losing my mind. Can someone confirm that this is
supposed to work before I bugzilla this?
I am trying to get NetworkManager to ignore my wireless adapter (while
still managing my Ethernet adapter and VPN connections). I have created
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-wlan0:
DEVICE=wlan0
TYPE=Wireless
HWADDR=00:23:14:12:C1:38
NM_CONTROLLED=no
Even after rebooting, however, NetworkManager is still taking control of
wlan0.
So who is crazy, me or the computer? :-|
Thanks!
(This Fedora 15 with NetworkManager-0.8.9997-5.git20110702.fc15.x86_64,
BTW.)

Remote Desktop in F15 & Gnome 3
by Andy Theuninck
I want to turn on desktop sharing, but the menu options listed in the
documentation no longer exist. This is the document I'm looking at:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User_Guide_-_Sharing_Your_Desktop
Alternately, if there's a way to tweak /etc/sysconfig/vncservers to
use x0vncserver instead of Xvnc, that would probably accomplish what I
want. According to the man pages, the two programs take pretty much
identical arguments, but the vncserver wrapper script used by init
doesn't have any obvious options for switching backends.

Can't run Software Update since upgrade
by Alan Evans
I was a F13 holdout for a long time and finally caved to my machine
constantly nagging me to upgrade. I did the upgrade (preupgrade) to
F14, since I'm not ready to endure all the changes in F15. Still, I'm
surprised at the number of things that subtly (and not-so-subtly)
broke. I'll take it one thing at at time...
Today, the little icon in the system tray tells me that there are
updates, and clicking on it sure enough brings up the "Software
Update" app. However, selecting "Install Updates" merely results in a
dialog:
Authorization failed
You have failed to provide correct authorization.
Please check any passwords or account settings.
I was never asked to provide a password. Clicking on the "More
details" dropdown, helpfully states:
Failed to obtain authentication.
Gee, thanks for the additional details!
This same thing happened yesterday and I found that I could do the
update from a terminal with yum update. So I guess this isn't an
absolute show-stopper, but the GUI app ought to work, I think. How
should I begin troubleshooting this (like where should I go to
*actually* get more details)?

No sound after update today -
by Bob Goodwin
I ran yum update earlier and now I have no sound. I haven't
found anything that restores it in alsamixer or p/a vol.
control. Alsamixer [F5 for All] only displays two controls,
normally there are others that require unmuting?
I have Thunderbird mail set up for voice announcements for
various e-mail sources and have come to rely on sound for that
so it's a bit of a panic.
