F17 - evolution stops accepting input
by John Horne
Hello,
Since updating my PC to F17 every so often the 'evolution' mail client
stops accepting input to various windows. For example, if I am sending a
new message, then I can enter the recipient, the subject line and start
to type the message. If, as has just happened, I change the layout from
'preformatted' to 'normal' then I can no longer enter any more of the
message. Nothing is accepted. Generally I discard the message, and start
again. (I don't think going from preformatted to normal is the cause,
that was just an example of when this has happened.)
I have had the same problem when entering mail filtering rules. I can
enter the rule name, but cannot, for example, enter the rule itself
based (say) on the subject. Again, no input is accepted. In this
instance I had to enter the rule first, then the rule name.
Anyone any ideas about this?
Thanks.
John.

Can't boot Linux after motherboard change
by Paolo Galtieri
Folks,
here's my situation and am wondering if anybody could provide some
suggestions.
Three weeks ago I had the motherboard of my Dell Precision M65 laptop
replaced due to issues with the video card. After the Dell tech replaced
the board I had no problems booting up on my F16 installation. After a few
days this motherboard started exhibiting power supply issues. The system
would switch from AC power to battery, dimming the monitor, and then switch
back to AC with the monitor brightening. This continued to happen on and
off for several weeks, it also would happen under Windows 7, so wasn't an
OS issue. I tried two different external power supplies, but the problem
still occurred. If I took the battery out and ran on just the AC then the
system would power itself off within a minute or two. I contacted Dell and
described the problem and today the Dell tech replaced the motherboard
again. The problem is that now Linux no longer boots. It starts to boot,
it loads the kernel and the ramdisk, but then the fan speeds up and the
system powers off. Earlier today I was able to boot off a F16 DVD and was
able to backup my user account data to an external drive. Now when I try
it it no longer works, it starts the process, I get prompted for language
and keyboard, but then again the fans speed up and the system powers off.
The system is configured to boot both Windows 7 and Linux. If I boot
Windows it comes up just fine and runs, but Linux wont. When I boot
Windows the fans do not speed up as they do with Linux.
Anybody have any ideas as to what might be going on?
The system is updated to the lasted changes. I tried to boot an earlier
kernel, but I get the same behavior.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Paolo

wine-mono is not welcome
by Dario Lesca
How to use wine without get mono (44Mb of wine-mono)?
Today I check update and I see this:
> Installing for dependencies:
> wine-filesystem noarch 1.5.8-1.fc17 updates 68 k
> wine-mono noarch 0.0.4-7.fc17 updates 44 M
I do not want MONO!
I do not use MONO (the MS's trojan horse) on my PCs and Servers, then,
I'm sorry: while this dependence exist I cannot update Wine.
(IMHO: It's time to stop this drift to MS, (UEFI, mono, ecc.), it's time
to live without MS. It's possible: just want it and do it.)
How to, and with who I can work, eliminate this dependency?
Temporarily I have update my f17 with this command:
% sudo yum update --exclude wine\* --skip-broken
There is some other suggestions rather than "yum remove wine" to solve
this issue ?
Many thanks

TeX update failure with texlive-release.repo
by Timothy Murphy
I'm using the texlive-release repo under Fedora-17
in order to get a recent version of TeXLive.
(I want to run luatex, and this seems the easiest way.)
I've been getting the following dependency error
for the last few days:

I wonder if anyone else has been getting this,
and if so whether there is any way round?
I must admit I can't make much sense of this yum error message.

what on earth is firefox up to?
by Tom Horsley
Every time I start firefox after recent updates, top
shows it periodically taking up to 50% of the CPU
even if I'm just looking at a simple page of plain
html (no scripts, not even any images) on my local
web server.
This is ff 13.0.1 on x86_64 fedora 17.
Any clues? Anyone see anything similar?

automount in fedora 17
by paul van der meij
I just fresh installed fedora 17 coming from fedora 14, i have tested 16
but decided to wait, and 17 looks now very nice.
But I have a problem: the automounter is not working.
I can mount manually so NFS is working OK
sytemctl list-all says: automount : active waiting
probably something simple, but I do not see it
any ideas
